About the Role

The Residential Instructor is responsible for the daily supervision of consumers and program operations, ensuring accurate and timely progress tracking. This role focuses on implementing Agency policies and procedures to maintain consumer and property safety, and providing a fun, safe, and healthy environment for individuals.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor consumer behavior and implement relevant management programs.
  • Document all shift activities, incidents, and consumer progress accurately.
  • Prepare programmatic and statistical reports as required.
  • Maintain the safety, appearance, and cleanliness of the home, conducting inspections and minor repairs.
  • Uphold a professional attitude with colleagues, management, and external agencies.
  • Ensure constant awareness of consumer locations and adherence to all Agency policies and procedures, including medication administration, key control, IP implementation, and emergency protocols.
  • Immediately alert appropriate personnel to problems or unusual occurrences and complete incident reports promptly.
  • Implement and adhere to all policies, procedures, and legal/program commitments as required by state and federal agencies.
  • Report on delegated responsibilities at staff meetings.
  • Act as an advocate and role model for consumers, treating them with respect and dignity.
  • Assist consumers with personal hygiene needs.
  • Document all activities related to the welfare of the home or consumer, including movement, incidents, medical emergencies, and behavioral changes.
  • Distribute medications according to schedules and guidelines.
  • Provide and supervise activities and programs for consumers, both internally and externally.
  • Offer counseling and reinforcement to assigned consumers.
  • Supervise and safely transport residents to community activities and programs.
  • Follow emergency procedures for various critical incidents.
  • Assist guardians and parents in understanding and implementing normalization/person-centered-planning principles.
  • Report and respond to violations of individuals' rights and participate in investigations.
  • Assist with shopping, meal preparation, and related tasks.
  • Attend in-service training and professional development opportunities.
  • Provide training for Agency personnel as required.
  • Actively participate in staff meetings and trainings.
  • Maintain a thorough working knowledge of Agency policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
  • Follow and document behavior support plans.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Minimum of two years of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or dual diagnoses (experience may be substituted with education).
  • Valid driver's license and ability to be insured by the Agency.
  • Ability to travel in the course of daily work using an Agency or personal vehicle.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain certifications in CPR, First Aid, PMT, and DDS State Medication Administration.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds, transfer, and physically intervene with individuals as required.
