About the Role
The Clinical Assistant performs various duties under the supervision of a Department or Nurse Manager and/or Supervisor. Key duties include Clerical/Patient Registration, Technician (operating an Electrocardiograph machine), and Phlebotomist (collecting blood and other patient samples). A Clinical Assistant – II functions in all three areas and provides a direct link between the patient and testing services.
Responsibilities
- Performs receptionist duties, unit clerk laboratory duties, or patient registration duties.
- Functions as the center of communication for areas assigned.
- Operates an Electrocardiograph machine to record electromotive variations and impulses of the heart.
- Collects blood and other patient samples from Emergency Department patient population.
- Performs other technical skills as trained.
Requirements
- High school graduate or G.E.D.
- Ability to pass a medical terminology exam upon hire or have passed a medical terminology class in the past 2 years.
- CPR certification or ability to acquire.
- Computer knowledge or willingness to learn computer skills.
- Previous acute bedside hospital experience as Clinical Assistant, Nurse Aide, or EMT within the past 2 years.
- Ability to perform detailed assignments and work under pressure.
- Possesses a high level of interpersonal communication skills to relate to patients, hospital staff and visitors.
- This is a bargaining union position.
