About the Role

Shulman & Partners LLP is seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Law Clerk to support their family law team in Toronto. This role involves managing file mechanics, including drafting documents, tracking deadlines, and maintaining file accuracy, allowing lawyers to focus on strategy and client care.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, draft, and revise legal documents, including Applications, Separation Agreements, Parenting Plans, Pleadings, Affidavits, Financial Statements, Net Family Property Statements, and Conference Briefs.
  • Open and close files in accordance with firm protocols and LSO requirements and keep electronic and hard-copy files accurate and current.
  • Act as a key point of contact between the legal team and clients, opposing counsel, and external experts.
  • Schedule meetings, court dates, and deadlines, and monitor file progress to ensure nothing is missed.
  • Docket time accurately and maintain billing records in Clio.
  • Support the legal team with other administrative and litigation-related tasks as needed.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a Law Clerk supporting a litigation practice; family law experience is a strong asset.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including comfort handling sensitive client communications with clients, opposing counsel, and the court.
  • Familiarity with the Family Law Rules, court processes, and legal documentation.
  • Comfortable with legal software; experience with Clio and DivorcePath is an asset.

Salary/Compensations

  • $75,000 to $90,000 CAD base salary; compensation based on the experience, judgment, and independence you bring to the role.
