About the Role

Our teachers play a key role in bringing to life the academic and cultural visions of our schools. This includes daily lesson planning, intentional curriculum design, and regular data analysis to help all students learn and grow. Teachers implement Social Emotional Learning lessons and Restorative Practices to create a joyful, inclusive classroom community and work closely with the school’s Leadership Team to ensure students are learning and growing.

Responsibilities

Manage the daily math tutoring block, ensuring students connect with tutors quickly and managing multiple live sessions.
Circulate the room, handle technical and behavioral issues to support tutors and students.
Ensure student safety by adhering to policies, following reporting protocols, and acting as a mandated reporter.
Track and troubleshoot daily attendance, participation, and technical issues like logins and connections.
Review session reports weekly and communicate student engagement insights to the classroom teacher.
Maintain classroom equipment, including devices, headsets, chargers, and rosters, and report any issues.
Serve as the school-side contact for the provider regarding scheduling, rosters, and daily operations.
Plan daily and long-term lessons using curriculum and resources aligned with KIPP’s academic vision.
Analyze data regularly to identify student academic trends and inform instructional practices.
Maintain a positive, warm, inclusive, rigorous, and engaging classroom environment incorporating Restorative Practices and Social Emotional Learning.
Implement culturally responsive classroom management strategies to create a safe learning environment.
Communicate regularly with staff, students, families, and stakeholders to ensure strong partnerships.
Attend and engage in weekly Professional Development and Communities of Practice.
Update student records regularly, including attendance, grades, and behavior data.

Requirements

Experience as an educator teaching students with similar demographics to KIPP Public Schools Northern California students.
Hold a B.A/B.S degree from a regionally accredited institution.
Need to obtain an Emergency 30-Day Substitute Teaching Permit.
Commitment to KIPP mission and vision.
Commitment to being an anti-racist educator.
Belief that all students can achieve at the highest academic levels.
Possess strong content area knowledge.
Strong skills in building relationships with students, families, and communities.
Communicate well with students, families, and colleagues.
Proficient knowledge of Google Suite applications (Google Classroom, Hangout, Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc.).
Ability to learn and utilize instructional technology (e.g., Zoom, Nearpod) for in-class and distance learning.
Ability to navigate school and classroom settings.
Ability to access and utilize technology.
Occasional lifting/carrying of equipment 1-20 lbs.
Physical agility to move in various positions (kneeling, walking, pushing/pulling, squatting, twisting, turning, bending, stooping, reaching overhead).
Ability to analyze problems and generate alternatives.
Ability to work with interruptions.
Ability to concentrate for long periods.
Ability to read, calculate, and perform routine math problems.
Ability to memorize and recall objects and people.
Adhere to KIPP’s health and safety guidelines.
