About the Role

This faculty position also serves as the department chair for the Occupational Therapy Assistant department. The role provides academic leadership, management, and overall coordination for the department, including budget authority and representation on college councils. The position aims to foster a collegewide instructional leadership environment conducive to student success, starting Spring 2027.

Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership in developing, evaluating, and maintaining a curriculum that responds to community needs, prepares students for success, and meets accreditation requirements.
  • Develops and maintains the departmental budget and instructional supplies.
  • Supervises, hires, coaches, and evaluates faculty in alignment with College policies and employment laws.
  • Ensures departmental decision-making is informed by data and involves collaboration with key stakeholders.
  • Develops and approves the course schedule, makes faculty assignments, and maintains faculty eligibility.
  • Prepares and teaches courses in Occupational Therapy to a multicultural student population.
  • Participates actively in departmental responsibilities and governance, including curriculum review, program review, and assessment of student learning outcomes.
  • Evaluates student progress and provides clear, timely feedback.
  • Serves as a mentor to students and faculty in the Occupational Therapy Assistant program.
  • Provides teaching and mentoring services to students without discrimination.
  • Supports professional development and research-related activities.
  • Leads and supports division and department goals through active and collegial engagement.
  • Serves on collegewide and departmental committees, councils, work groups, and task forces.
  • Performs other related tasks as assigned.
  • Demonstrates proficiency using computer applications, online resources, and other technologies for the classroom.
  • Demonstrates proficiency using an online learning management system such as Blackboard.
  • Complies with published college policies and procedures and meets professional standards for teaching in a community college.

Requirements

  • Must maintain a domicile in the State of Texas while employed.
  • Requires a master’s degree awarded by an institution accredited by the USDE.
  • Requires 5 years of documented non-teaching experience in the field of occupational therapy.
  • Faculty must be currently licensed or otherwise regulated as an occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant in the United States jurisdiction.
  • Requires demonstrated proficiency using computer applications, online resources, and other technologies for the classroom.
  • Requires demonstrated proficiency using an online learning management system such as Blackboard.
  • Requires appropriate use of the college's learning management system.
  • Requires meeting deadlines for attendance certification and submission of final course grades.
  • Requires participation in graduation, general assembly, and other official college functions.
  • Requires maintaining regular office hours to assist students and improve student retention and success.
  • Requires attendance and participation in collegewide, campus, department, or other activities and meetings.
  • Requires recognition and reflection of standards of civility and collegiality in all interactions.
  • Requires compliance with published college policies and procedures and meeting professional standards for teaching in a community college.
