About the Role

We are looking for a highly capable Complex Claim Specialist to join our team and work from our Omaha or Albany office. This position is responsible for the investigation, evaluation, negotiation, and settlement of complex and high exposure general liability claims, including some commercial auto claims. The role involves assessing coverage, contacting relevant parties, engaging experts, making liability and coverage decisions, and negotiating claims to conclusion. It also includes handling UM/UIM exposures, reviewing litigation strategy, and providing excellent customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Adjudicate complex and high exposure third-party general liability bodily injury and property damage claims under limited technical direction.
  • Provide superior claims outcomes and develop lasting connections with insureds and brokers.
  • Analyze claims forms, policies, endorsements, and client instructions to determine coverage.
  • Address excess policies applicable to the loss.
  • Complete claim investigations or review initial investigations promptly and thoroughly.
  • Properly assess and evaluate liability exposure and ensure accurate reserving.
  • Secure recorded statements and document file activity concisely.
  • Adjudicate claims with the greatest complexity, severity, and exposure, including excess umbrella policies.
  • Manage diaries to ensure timely and complete tasks for optimal financial outcomes and resolution.
  • Complete claim evaluations with settlement authority recommendations and present them to management.
  • Identify, assign, and coordinate expertise resources for case resolution.
  • Negotiate claims to a proper resolution within granted authority.
  • Attend mediations as required.
  • Handle all fatality and pedestrian losses.
  • Proactively move files toward proper resolution.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate diaries on all files.
  • Consult with defense counsel or medical experts when needed.
  • Apply cost containment methodology and review medical necessity and reasonable charges.
  • Utilize third-party bill reviews when applicable.
  • Report to Underwriting when risk analysis information is developed.
  • Communicate with agents, providing updates, inquiries, and alerts.
  • Adjudicate claims according to applicable state mandates/statutes.
  • Investigate, review, and stay current on applicable case law.
  • Make liability assessments for first- and third-party losses.
  • Send required forms and state compliance documents/letters.
  • Obtain appropriate releases, court-approved settlements for minors, or estate claims, and structured settlements.
  • Attend pre-suit mediations.
  • Handle demands for Arbitrations and associated discovery.
  • Ensure compliance with state regulations and requirements.
  • Consider alternative dispute resolutions and utilize creative resolutions.
  • Make daily decisions to determine the appropriate course of action for files.
  • Demonstrate a passion for strong claim management.

Requirements

  • A specialized knowledge of adjudicating complex and high exposure auto bodily injury claims, including fatalities.
  • Exceptional customer service focus.
  • A minimum of five years of experience adjudicating complex and high exposure third-party general liability bodily injury and property damage claims.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or equivalent (two or more industry designations or four years of relevant experience in addition to the minimum requirement).
  • Licensed Claims Examiner (Must be licensed or have the ability to quickly obtain a license in each jurisdiction requiring one within 120 days).

Salary/Compensations

  • Albany Pay Range: $93,228 - $116,994
