About the Role

The Department of Medicine at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Clinical Assistant Professor (HS) / Hospitalist to admit and treat adult patients, collaborate with healthcare staff, and serve as a teaching attending physician for medical residents and students.

Responsibilities

  • Admit adult unassigned patients from the Emergency Department, MICU, and CCU according to Hospitalist service schedules.
  • Diagnose and treat medical conditions in hospitalized adult patients.
  • Collaborate with nursing staff and social workers for patient discharge arrangements.
  • Provide consultations for preoperative patients and inpatients.
  • Function as the teaching attending physician for medical residents and student teams for approximately eight months a year.
  • Set and communicate expectations and provide individual performance evaluations.
  • Mentor 2nd-year students on history taking and physical examination skills.
  • Evaluate third-year medical students.
  • Teach courses to Medical Residents and Students.
  • Participate in Hospitalist Service meetings and administrative tasks.

Requirements

  • MD or DO degree required.
  • Board certified or eligible in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine.
  • New York State Medical License required.
  • DEA registration required.
  • Experience in academic medicine and teaching is preferred.
