About the Role
The Department of Medicine at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Clinical Assistant Professor (HS) / Hospitalist to admit and treat adult patients, collaborate with healthcare staff, and serve as a teaching attending physician for medical residents and students.
Responsibilities
- Admit adult unassigned patients from the Emergency Department, MICU, and CCU according to Hospitalist service schedules.
- Diagnose and treat medical conditions in hospitalized adult patients.
- Collaborate with nursing staff and social workers for patient discharge arrangements.
- Provide consultations for preoperative patients and inpatients.
- Function as the teaching attending physician for medical residents and student teams for approximately eight months a year.
- Set and communicate expectations and provide individual performance evaluations.
- Mentor 2nd-year students on history taking and physical examination skills.
- Evaluate third-year medical students.
- Teach courses to Medical Residents and Students.
- Participate in Hospitalist Service meetings and administrative tasks.
Requirements
- MD or DO degree required.
- Board certified or eligible in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine.
- New York State Medical License required.
- DEA registration required.
- Experience in academic medicine and teaching is preferred.
