About the Role

As Assistant General Counsel, you will be the second in-house lawyer, reporting directly to the General Counsel. This generalist role focuses on adtech, with core responsibilities in data privacy and commercial contracting for the advertising business. You will also support legal needs across the entire company, driving matters with autonomy and judgment. This role offers a path to becoming a general counsel by building a modern legal function, creating processes, and leveraging AI for efficiency.

Responsibilities

Negotiate and close commercial agreements for the adtech business, including data licenses, MSAs, DPAs, and SOWs and order forms with agencies, platforms, publishers, and retail media networks
Embed with product, engineering, and growth teams to advise on new features and data flows
Build out the data privacy program, including data inventory, consent and opt-out mechanics, vendor diligence, and consumer data request processes
Support the expansion of our consumer fintech business, working alongside specialist consumer regulatory counsel
Build the legal operations layer with AI wherever possible, including intake, negotiation playbooks, self-service templates, contract review, and company-wide policies
Manage outside counsel on matters, including scope, budget, and rate discipline
Cover legal needs across the whole company, including shared services, employment, IP, corporate, structured financings, insurance, and state-level licensing

Requirements

Deep data privacy experience, particularly as it relates to adtech
Desire to embed in the business and own its legal needs end to end
Experience running high-volume commercial and sales contracting
Experience using AI tools
Comfort being the only lawyer in the room on matters, with the judgment to escalate when needed
Ability to distinguish real risk from theoretical risk and provide clear answers
Desire to grow into a general counsel role
JD and active bar membership in good standing
Approximately 7+ years of post-JD experience, combining law firm training with time in-house
Deep data privacy experience, ideally in adtech, data licensing, or a data-driven consumer business
Substantial commercial and sales contracting experience at volume
Legal operations experience and genuine AI fluency
Excellent written and verbal communication
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and drive progress autonomously
