About the Role

We're hiring a Technical Program Manager to run our research roadmap and the DGP and partner operations that make it real. You'll be directly accountable for our data generation programs and external research partners, coordinating closely with our science and AI/ML functions. This role requires someone who can balance enthusiasm for new ideas with a demand for evidence and specification, translating scientific hypotheses, data needs, and logistics into a trusted plan. You will also help build our research team's credibility and reach through publications, a science advisory board, grant funding, and new research partnerships. You'll report to the CEO and ensure the research roadmap is a visible and trusted living plan.

Responsibilities

Validate new and existing model capabilities across different locations, tree ages, varieties, and species before commercial deployment.
Track all active research bets from discovery signal to deployed capability, identifying stages and blockers.
Source, vet, contract, and manage CROs and university researchers for data generation projects, ensuring adherence to specifications and catching data quality issues.
Translate between science, AI/ML functions, and external research partners to create an executable plan.
Develop paper partnerships, a science advisory board, grant funding, and new research partnerships to expand research team capabilities.

Requirements

Track record of specifying experimental or data-generation work, including defining exit criteria, success metrics, and sufficient evidence.
Experience maintaining requirements or data-quality standards with stakeholders or external partners without damaging relationships.
Grounding in plant physiology or agronomy, or a strong track record running rigorous scientific research operations without specific domain background.
Fluency in at least one of sensor hardware, experimental science, or applied statistics and data, with credible range across the others.
Experience sourcing, vetting, and contracting external research partners within budget and timeline.
Experience building or materially improving roadmap, tracking, or review processes for a small team.
Strong written communication skills, capable of producing documents trusted by scientists, engineers, and CEOs.
Comfort operating without mature processes.
PhD or equivalent deep research training in a life science or related field (Strong plus).
Datagen-for-ML experience (Strong plus).
Experience at a hardware-plus-AI or sensing company (Strong plus).
Grant-writing experience (Strong plus).
Experience running a research operations function or PMO that later scaled up (Strong plus).
