About the Role
The Fire Life Safety Director is responsible for maintaining a safe and compliant environment by overseeing fire and life safety procedures at the assigned site. The position monitors fire alarm and life safety systems, conducts fire drills and safety inspections, and responds to alarms and emergency situations. The role also maintains required safety documentation and coordinates with building management, emergency responders, and security personnel to support effective emergency response and building safety.
Responsibilities
- Monitor fire alarm systems, life safety systems, and emergency equipment to ensure proper operation.
- Conduct fire drills, evacuation procedures, and safety inspections in accordance with FDNY guidelines.
- Maintain and update the building’s Fire Safety Plan and Emergency Action Plan as required.
- Respond promptly to fire alarms, system malfunctions, and other emergency situations.
- Coordinate with building management, FDNY, emergency responders, and security personnel during incidents.
- Train and direct building occupants and fire wardens on emergency evacuation and fire safety procedures.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation of fire drills, inspections, incidents, and required safety activities.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with FDNY regulations, NYC Fire Code requirements, and building safety policies.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Active FDNY F-89 Certificate of Fitness (Fire Life Safety Director).
- Active New York State Security Guard License (8 & 16 hour).
- At least 1 year experience as a Fire Life Safety Director or in a related fire/life safety, security, emergency management, or building safety role.
- Strong knowledge of FDNY fire codes, fire safety procedures, and emergency evacuation protocols.
- Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Ability to remain calm, professional, and effective during emergency situations.
- Reliable and dependable with availability to work Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 8:00 AM–4:00 PM.
- Experience working in a commercial or residential building environment is preferred.
