About the Role
Visitor Experience Associates are the front-line staff of the New Museum, providing a professional, warm, and welcoming experience to museum visitors. As ambassadors, VEAs will provide exceptional customer service by engaging with guests in the lobby, at the visitor services desk, and in the New Museum Store. This role involves selling admission, public programming tickets, memberships, and New Museum Store sales. Work hours include weekends, evenings, holidays, and may involve staffing offsite events.
Responsibilities
- Proactively greet and engage visitors, providing enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and friendly service.
- Monitor and assist with visitor flow, informing visitors of museum policies and safety protocols.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of museum exhibitions, programming, membership benefits, events, store products, promotions, and policies.
- Respond accurately and professionally to visitor inquiries in person and by phone.
- Follow through on customer sales, including mail and special orders.
- Assist with check-in and admissions for public programming and special events.
- Provide support for Store special events, promotions, and related activities both on and offsite.
- Offer reception services for administrative staff.
- Perform other duties as assigned relating to visitor experience operations.
- Work to meet individual and team store sales goals.
- Sell tickets for exhibitions, public programming, and special events.
- Sell memberships and provide member support.
- Perform cashier duties, processing cash and credit card transactions accurately.
- Count register drawer and prepare daily sales deposit.
- Monitor store supply and inventory levels, notifying the Retail Manager of low stock.
- Assist with checking in, unpacking, and replenishing inventory and new stock.
- Assist with visual merchandising and daily maintenance of the store.
- Assist with annual physical inventory count and other duties related to retail operations.
Requirements
- Eagerness to provide professional, welcoming, enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and friendly service.
- Previous experience interacting with the public in a museum, gallery, retail, hospitality, or cultural institution is required.
- Attention to detail and the ability to prioritize, follow through, and complete assigned tasks.
- Familiarity and comfort with computers and technology.
- Ability to occasionally lift 25-pound boxes.
- Ability to be physically active in the lobby, store, and storage areas.
- Weekends and holidays are required.
- Varying shift availability of early and evening hours may be required.
- Must be vaccinated with the COVID vaccine as per New York State Guidelines.
