About the Role

The Finance Director will play a critical leadership role in driving the financial performance and strategic direction of multiple key business segments within Dow Jones. You will serve as a strategic advisor to the Advertising, Events, Leadership Institute and Brand Marketing operating teams, providing insights and guidance to enable data-driven decision-making and ensure the business achieves its financial and operational goals.

Responsibilities

  • Have full accountability for the Profit and Loss statement, ensuring alignment with overall business objectives.
  • Maximize revenue growth by leveraging financial insights to develop innovative strategies, optimize product offerings, and identify new market opportunities.
  • Monitor and manage costs, ensuring operational efficiency and margin optimization.
  • Drive financial performance through strategic initiatives, operational efficiencies, and market positioning.
  • Own the forecast, budget and Long Range planning process.
  • Establish and track key financial indicators across revenue and cost dimensions to gauge business performance.
  • Implement cost-related KPIs to ensure fiscal discipline and transparency.
  • Lead the enhancement of revenue reporting systems to ensure accuracy and integrity in financial data.
  • Collaborate with HR, Finance, and other departments for optimal resource and headcount management.
  • Serve as a key financial advisor to the group leaders, helping shape and balance short-term performance with long-term strategy.
  • Work closely with sales leadership and other cross-functional leaders to pinpoint opportunities and mitigate risks.
  • Lead the Budget and Long Range Plan strategic planning process.
  • Build and guide a high-performing team, fostering a culture of transparency, accountability and collaboration.
  • Serve as a liaison for key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Communicate business performance, financial analysis, risks, and opportunities to Dow Jones senior management effectively.
  • Enhance collaboration across Dow Jones business units to capitalize on enterprise-wide opportunities.

Requirements

  • Exceptional analytical skills with the ability to identify and address critical financial issues.
  • Advanced financial modeling skills with high proficiency in Excel, enabling detailed and strategic analysis.
  • Strong operational background with the capability to implement financial plans effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically, translating complex data into actionable insights and strategic recommendations.
  • Strong communication skills, capable of engaging and influencing stakeholders at all organizational levels.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, or a related field.
  • 12+ years of experience in financial roles with a track record of progressive responsibility.
  • Proven capability to develop and implement strategic plans in a dynamic environment.
  • Exceptional analytical and financial skills.
  • Strong leadership qualities with a focus on team collaboration.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of inspiring and influencing stakeholders at all levels.
