About the Role

American Innovations is seeking an accomplished and hands-on Assistant Controller to support its expanding finance organization. This role will be instrumental in strengthening daily accounting operations, enhancing financial reporting, and preparing the company for continued growth.

Responsibilities

• Own the close and produce clean, audit-ready financials monthly.
• Drive compliance to SaaS-related accounting, including revenue recognition and deferred revenue management.
• Lead the development of audit-ready PBC schedules and serve as a primary liaison with external auditors.
• Build and maintain the deferred revenue waterfall and rev rec memos.
• Anticipate adjustments, normalize EBITDA add-backs, revenue quality issues like customer concentration or churn embedded in deferred revenue, and one-time items.
• Defend the numbers, explain why a number is what it is under pressure, and produce supporting schedules quickly.
• Collaborate on process improvements, system enhancements, and scaling accounting workflows for a growth-stage environment.
• Strengthen internal controls and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
• Manage general ledger activities, month-end close processes, and account reconciliations.
• Prepare and review financial statements, supporting documentation, and variance analysis.
• Support annual audits and ensure adherence to GAAP and internal control standards.
• Provide mentorship and guidance to junior accounting staff.

Requirements

• 5–7 years of progressive accounting experience.
• Experience within SaaS or subscription-based business models.
• Background working in growth-stage or rapidly scaling companies.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Dynamics GP (Great Plains).
• Demonstrated experience preparing for audits and producing PBC schedules.
• Strong understanding of GAAP and internal control frameworks.
• Highly hands-on, organized, and comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
