About the Role

The Practice Development Manager (PDM) will serve as a trusted advisor to leadership within the Asset Management group, focusing on supporting the Registered Funds practice. This role is key to setting strategy, driving accountability, and ensuring operational efficiency, while collaborating with various departments to achieve the practice’s strategic vision and business objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with practice and specialty group leadership, partners, and stakeholders to develop a strategic Registered Funds group plan with clear goals focused on competitive differentiation, market/brand reputation, talent, and profitability.
  • Support Registered Funds leadership with daily operations, including preparing for, designing, and running initiatives and meetings focused on group priorities.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement, innovation, and efficiency in business operations, matter management, infrastructure, and methodologies, and develop solutions and action plans.
  • Execute and track progress on initiatives supporting firm and Registered Funds and Asset Management group strategies.
  • Manage Registered Funds talent needs by working with leadership and Attorney Talent to handle partner and counsel transitions, including evaluating talent needs, onboarding laterals, preparing business cases for promotions, integrating promoted partners, and planning for retirements/succession.
  • Collaborate with leadership to identify and execute Registered Funds group knowledge management needs.
  • Focus on Registered Funds innovation through product development and thought leadership campaigns, partnering with attorneys, Legal Knowledge Management, Business Development, and Marketing teams.
  • Work with Business Development, Public Relations, and Events teams to raise attorney profiles by identifying speaking opportunities, conferences, sponsorships, and writing opportunities.
  • Strategize and oversee the preparation of legal ranking submissions and develop processes to track Registered Funds experience.
  • Facilitate the sharing of practice area developments and information with appropriate business support teams.
  • Monitor current trends and best practices in legal and professional services management, communicating the impact of new innovations, developments, and regulations.
  • Analyze Registered Funds practice financial performance in collaboration with Finance colleagues and drive performance, growth, leverage, realization, and profitability.
  • Prepare and manage Practice Group budgets.
  • Manage Practice Development Specialists, Experience Analysts, and Coordinators through coaching, mentoring, and delegation.
  • Support the development and implementation of AI-enabled practice development practices, focusing on new product development, strategic planning, lateral hiring research, and onboarding workflows.

  • Experience in asset management/registered funds or in a mid-sized to large law firm preferred.
  • At least eight years’ applicable experience working in a mid-sized to large law firm or corporate environment in a similar field and/or as a practicing attorney.

  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to take responsibility for designing and implementing goals.
  • Prior people management experience, including coaching, mentoring, and strong delegation skills.
  • Occasional travel may be necessary.

Salary/Compensations

  • Boston: $150,100 - $240,150
  • New York: $161,000 - $257,600
