About the Role

The Registered Nurse will conduct general assessments and evaluations for sick/injured clients, manage youth in their care, and collaborate with various disciplines to promote positive medical outcomes. The nurse will also participate in new hire orientations and provide observations for nursing students. This role requires adherence to the Agency's Mission, Vision, Values, Guiding Principles, and Strategic Plan, with cross-training to collaborate with the residential nursing department.

Responsibilities

• Perform duties as required regarding child’s health, including vital signs, lab work, and medication administration.
• Triage and assess client injuries and illnesses, communicating with on-call medical and psychiatric providers.
• Attend intake and treatment team meetings.
• Perform training, supervision, and maintain records for unlicensed staff medication administration.
• Prepare client’s monthly med sheets for the pharmacy.
• Maintain the medication administration record.
• Complete nursing progress notes per OMH regulation.
• Supply program and client data and statistics to the Director of Health Service as requested.
• Prepare medical discharge summaries.
• Prepare home visit medications weekly.
• Perform nursing assessments and obtain appropriate consents for students.
• Provide health education and counseling to students and families.
• Administer and supervise medication administration following physician orders.
• Provide mandated screenings and immunization monitoring.
• Inspect medical supplies weekly or monthly depending on program needs.
• Transport clients for medical appointments and to address medical/psychiatric needs.
• Conduct weekly medical education with each client, including medication management and planning.
• Maintain confidentiality and security for all client and staff related materials and records.
• Ensure compliance with all Office of Mental Health (OMH) adolescent group home regulations.

Requirements

• 2 years of nursing experience working with adolescent and/or mental health clients required.
• NYS Registered Nurse License.
• LPN Required, RN preferred.
• CPR/First Aid, BLS Certified.
• Standing and walking is required for the majority of time spent on campus, including hills, stairs, and inclement weather conditions.
• Regular lifting of medical supplies, medications, patient supplies, and patient charts, all weighing up to twenty pounds is required.
• Bending is required when administering patient care, including the ability to bend to touch the floor to remove environmental hazards.
• Kneeling/Squatting is required when operating medical equipment and performing aspects of patient care, such as CPR.
