About the Role
Okta is building the trusted, neutral infrastructure to enable organizations to safely embrace AI. This role involves building the interfaces for users to interact with autonomous AI workers, defining novel interaction patterns for a rapidly evolving field.
Responsibilities
- Build the conversational interface for long-horizon agents, including streaming responses, tool calls, pause/interrupt controls, and mid-task steering.
- Design and ship memory management interfaces for users to view, edit, and understand agent memory and context.
- Build live agent run views displaying plans, steps, artifacts, retries, and results in real time.
- Develop human-in-the-loop approval surfaces for agent actions with clear diffs.
- Create the Worker Builder interface for users to design and configure digital workers using natural language.
- Manage complex client state for long-running agent sessions, including reconnection, optimistic updates, and failure recovery.
- Develop a reusable component library for agentic patterns to ensure consistent and polished interfaces.
- Handle model output honestly in the UI, displaying citations, uncertainty, errors, and empty states.
- Collaborate with backend and agent engineers to define APIs and event streams.
- Optimize performance across devices for a fast user experience with thousands of streamed events.
Requirements
- 3+ years of front-end engineering experience.
- Deep expertise in React, TypeScript, and modern state management (hooks, context, state machines).
- Experience building chat, copilot, or other LLM-powered interfaces in production.
- Hands-on experience with real-time UIs: WebSockets, server-sent events, streaming rendering, and reconnection handling.
- Strong product sense and ability to design interaction patterns where no standard exists.
- Experience integrating front ends with LLM APIs and handling streamed, partial, and structured model outputs.
- Experience translating designs into fast, polished, responsive production code.
- Strong communication skills and comfort working directly with users.
- Shipped a chat or agent product used by thousands of users (extra credit).
- Familiarity with agent frameworks (LangChain, LangGraph, or equivalent) and AI front-end SDKs (extra credit).
- Experience with design systems, accessibility standards, and component library ownership (extra credit).
- Experience visualizing complex processes: timelines, graphs, or workflow builders (extra credit).
- Prior experience at a high-growth venture-backed AI or SaaS startup (extra credit).
