About the Role
Black & McDonald Limited is seeking a Health & Safety Onsite Advisor to evaluate and monitor health and safety hazards, and develop control strategies for Industrial, Commercial & Institutional Sector job sites. This role requires independent work, inspecting workplaces to ensure compliance with company/client policies, government legislation, and industry best practices. A working knowledge of mechanical and electrical construction is necessary to understand employee hazards.
Responsibilities
- Conduct safety & environmental audits
- Inspect worksites to ensure equipment & materials do not present a safety or health hazard
- Ensure compliance with Company / Client Policy & Legislation
- Review/perform/complete incident & inspection reports & ensure corrective action & follow-up
- Review & investigate problems not resolved by site supervisors & contractors
- Ensure appropriate practices & procedures are provided to supervisory staff and coaching is provided when needed
- Participate in the development and implementation of health & safety programs & strategies
- Participate in the development of safe work practices & job procedures
- Provide consultation & deliver training programs to employees on health & safety issues
Requirements
- 3-5 years of experience within the HSE related field, specifically on construction sites
- Working knowledge of provincial and federal HSE regulations, programs and standards
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, and other HSE databases
- Ability to recognize hazards as well as advise on appropriate safe work methods
- Ability to understand technical drawings/systems
- Familiar with industry guidelines, ESA Code, TSSA Standards & appropriate CSA standards
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
