About the Role
The Brief Strategic Family Therapy (BSFT) Supervisor supports staff in implementing the BSFT model with families with children aged 6-17 presenting with behavioral problems. The Preventive Services Department uses Evidence Based models to ensure safe family environments and reduce foster care needs. Services are provided in the family's home and community.
Responsibilities
- Provides regularly scheduled weekly supervision to all clinical/case planning staff members.
- Evaluates and approves service plans (FASPs) based on safety/risk concerns and service needs.
- Facilitates weekly clinical case conferences and Family Team Conferences.
- Completes job performance evaluations and provides professional development support.
- May supervise student interns.
- Responsible for intake on new referrals.
- Provides frequent and appropriate feedback to program stakeholders, including ACS Child Protection.
- Understands ACS/OCFS electronic systems, including PROMIS and CNNX.
- Completes all necessary notes, progress notes, and other paperwork as required by ACS and JBFCS.
- Enters monthly supervisory notes in CNNX for CWS cases and in the case record for ADVPO cases.
- Adheres to the fidelity of the BSFT model regarding treatment length, case contacts, interventions, supervision, and documentation.
- Enters documentation in the OCFS and ACS Database System (PROMIS and CNNX).
- Collaborates with child welfare and follows ACS guidelines for preventive services, particularly safety and risk aspects.
- Participates in all BSFT MODEL training, supervision, and consultation activities.
- Works a hybrid schedule based on program needs.
- Commits to working on professional development goals to improve adherence.
- Works a flexible schedule to meet the needs of families.
- Conducts outreach to generate referrals for the program.
- Works with a team to meet client, program, and division needs.
- Performs additional tasks as assigned.
- Covers for the Director in their absence.
Requirements
- Basic social work knowledge and understanding of stages of change.
- Ability to provide in-home therapy and child welfare services.
- Ability to establish a strong therapeutic relationship with families.
- Understanding of the use of family therapy principles to provide services.
- Understanding of early childhood development and related theories and models of practice.
- Strong assessment skills to evaluate family dynamics and interactions.
- Ability to implement strategies to improve family communication and support.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Ability to travel within New York City carrying equipment such as a notebook, forms, laptop, mobile hotspot, and cell phone weighing up to approximately 10 pounds.
- Must be able to manage risks/hazards associated with traveling around New York City and interfacing with clients experiencing acute mental health crises or serious emotional disturbances.

Experience Level
- A minimum of three years of related experience in Child Welfare and/or Family Therapy.
- Specialized experience with specific client population or specialty (domestic violence, substance abuse, community outreach, etc.) is preferred.
- Knowledge and experience with the Connections system preferred.
- Bilingual/Bicultural preferred.
Education Level
- Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Mental Health Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, Creative Arts Therapy or a related subject area.
