About the Role
As a founding member of Via's new AI Labs, you will operate like a startup within the company to build AI-powered products that could fundamentally change how Via and its partner cities operate. This role offers autonomy, direct access to leadership, and the backing of a company at scale, with the opportunity to move fast, experiment boldly, and build from a blank canvas.
Responsibilities
- Build and ship production-grade AI products end-to-end, from problem framing and data pipeline design to deployment and iteration.
- Work closely with customers in a forward-deployed manner to understand problems and iterate on scalable agentic solutions.
- Lead technical scoping workshops, interfacing with city leaders to solve local problems with agentic workflows.
- Contribute to an intelligent tooling roadmap involving data consolidation, predictive modeling, real-time decision-making, and LLM-powered experiences.
- Collaborate with product, data science, and operations teams to identify and prioritize AI opportunities.
- Write clean, scalable backend and frontend code for AI-driven features, designing APIs, managing data flows, and ensuring system reliability.
- Help shape the technical culture of AI Labs, contributing to team processes for building, reviewing, shipping, and iterating.
- Stay current with AI development and proactively introduce new ideas, tools, and approaches.
Requirements
- 5+ years of hands-on experience building full stack applications, with a track record of owning features end-to-end.
- 3+ years of experience working with AI tools and/or building AI-powered products.
- Deep expertise across the AI stack, including LLMs, predictive modeling, and supporting data infrastructure.
- Strong backend engineering skills, including designing scalable APIs, working with distributed systems, and writing clean, maintainable code.
- Comfort with ambiguity and early-stage environments, taking ownership without explicit direction.
- Strong communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.
- Intellectual curiosity to push the boundaries of AI.
- Enjoyment of working directly with users and customers.
- Willingness to travel for on-site collaboration.
