About the Role

We are seeking a Trustee to join our Board with specific expertise in Safeguarding Adults & Children to support the Lead Safeguarding Trustee. Our vision is a world where women and girls lead safe, just and equal lives.

Responsibilities

• Provide independent oversight, expert advice, and strategic challenge to ensure the organization upholds the highest standards in safeguarding staff and service users.
• Promote a safe culture and hold the Executive Team accountable for safeguarding practices and risk management.
• Ensure the organization complies with its governing document and articles of association.
• Ensure the organization pursues its objectives as defined in its governing document.
• Ensure the organization applies its resources exclusively in pursuance of its objectives.
• Contribute actively to the Board of Trustees' role in giving firm strategic direction, setting overall policy, defining goals, setting targets, and evaluating performance.
• Safeguard the good name and values of the organization.
• Ensure the effective and efficient administration of the organization.
• Ensure the financial stability of the organization.
• Protect and manage the property of the organization and ensure the proper investment of its funds.
• Appoint the Chief Executive and monitor their performance.
• Ensure that Advance has a clear vision, mission, and strategic direction and is focused on achieving these.
• Be responsible for the performance of the charity and for its corporate behavior, ensuring compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements.
• Act as guardians of the charity’s assets, taking due care over their security, deployment, and proper application.
• Ensure that the charity’s governance is of the highest possible standard.
• Perform additional duties reasonably commensurate with the role.

Requirements

• Significant experience in safeguarding leadership, regulation, or governance (in education, health, social care, or the charity sector).
• Strong understanding of legal duties and statutory guidance on safeguarding.
• Ability to provide strategic oversight and constructive challenge at Board level.
• Commitment to the Board of Trustees for at least three years.
