About the Role

As part of the Youth Services Department's vision, this role assists in promoting growth, leadership, and positive self-image in young people. The Assistant Director will foster a safe and engaging environment for youth, encompassing light supervision, data entry, and group facilitation.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise participants, problem-solve, and intervene directly with youth in groups.
  • Maintain adequate staff supervision during all activities and trips.
  • Assist with designing and implementing curricula.
  • Collaborate with co-workers.
  • Follow daily schedules and procedures for in-house activities and trips.
  • Create a culture of positive group cohesiveness.
  • Supervise a group of children and occasionally participate in activities and trips.
  • Provide and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Maintain first aid and safety kits.
  • Maintain medical and contact information for each camper.
  • Maintain a daily log of all incidents/injuries.
  • Prepare attendance and other required reports.
  • Adhere to all regulations and procedures outlined in the safety plan.
  • Enter participant information on DYCD online.
  • Take attendance on a daily or weekly basis.
  • Assist the Program Director with running reports and database maintenance.
  • Ensure all paperwork is completed and submitted on time.
  • Prepare and submit time sheets bi-weekly.
  • Communicate regularly and appropriately with parents.
  • Complete all necessary paperwork.
  • Come to work with a positive attitude.
  • Supervise and evaluate youth staff.
  • Perform other assignments as required.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree required, Bachelor's preferred.
  • Youth development experience required.
  • Experience teaching and designing curricula required.
  • Experience with DYCD Online preferred.
  • Previous experience working with diverse young people ages 5-14 years old.
  • Three or more years of experience and expertise working with youth (volunteer experience acceptable).
  • Three or more years of experience coaching, instructing, or facilitating curriculum-based lessons (to youth preferred).
  • Personable, energetic, and enthusiastic demeanor.
  • Must complete NYSDOH Fingerprinting Screening.
  • Must complete New York State Clearance Review Background Check.
  • Must complete 3 reference checks.
  • Must complete a physical with an updated TB Test (fees may apply).
  • Valid CPR/AED Pro certification through a recognized accrediting body preferred.
  • Valid First Aid/RTE certification through a recognized accrediting body preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students while remaining professional.
  • Ability to motivate students and set a positive example in responsibility, timeliness, organization, attendance, and professionalism.
