About the Role

Sizewell C is designing, financing, constructing, operating, and decommissioning a nuclear power plant. The company's focus is on delivering the project on time, on budget, and to the highest quality and safety standards. Sizewell C is economically regulated by OFGEM under the Regulated Asset Base (RAB) model. The construction strategy replicates the Hinkley Point C design while innovating for savings. This role is crucial for managing the design and detailing scope of the Civil Works Programme Engineering & Technical team.

Responsibilities

  • Manage design or detailing contracts within delegated budget and authority, including management of claims and variations via CEMAR.
  • Deliver agreed design scope to programme milestones, working with schedulers to maintain and update design schedules aligned to construction needs.
  • Manage cost, schedule and scope changes through the SZC Change Management process, with technical support from engineering leads.
  • Manage Technical Queries response and escalation with the support of the Assistant Project Manager and Contract Engineering Lead.
  • Work with the Commercial Manager to monitor Key Dates applicable to scope area.
  • Report progress in line with SZC reporting requirements and delivery cadence.
  • Support procurement of Level 3 design supply contracts and task orders in line with SZC governance.
  • Identify and manage design delivery risks in accordance with SZC risk management processes and Risk Manager.
  • Escalate commercial or technical issues to the Senior Project Manager where required.

Requirements

  • Proven experience of managing the end-to-end detailed design sequence in major projects.
  • Strong organisation skills.
  • Confidence working with data.
  • Ability to communicate with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Keen to take responsibility, learn, and develop.
  • Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, Project Management, or a related discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer or Project Professional, or demonstrably working towards chartership.
  • Experience in managing external design companies and/or multi-disciplinary teams, including integration, design and delivery management.
  • Ability to effectively manage and influence various stakeholders, both internal and external.
  • Exposure to projects from concept through to handover.
  • Experience in the Nuclear industry or heavily regulated industries (Desirable).
  • Experience with concrete reinforcement detailing & RC Models (Desirable).
  • Must meet criteria for Security Vetting, ordinarily requiring UK residency for at least three of the past five years.

Salary/Compensations

  • Circa £66,866 depending on experience

  • Sizewell C’s business is to design, finance, construct, commission, operate, maintain, and eventually decommission the nuclear power plant and related infrastructure at Sizewell C in Suffolk.
  • Sizewell C is economically regulated by OFGEM under the Regulated Asset Base (RAB) model similar to other UK electricity distribution networks and Thames Tideway.
  • Sizewell C construction strategy is to replicate the design of Hinkley Point C, using the majority of the same supply chain, but innovating in the way it is delivered to achieve savings in time and cost of around 20%.
  • Following Financial Completion and Revenue Commencement, Sizewell C is fully funded and is owned by; The Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero representing HM Government, La Caisse, Centrica, EDF and Amber Infrastructure.
