About the Role

The paralegal is responsible for general practice functions and duties in support of attorneys and clients, acting as case handlers and providing legal advice and services under attorney supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct initial interviews and in-depth screening of applicants for eligibility and services.
  • Perform follow-up investigations for eligible clients.
  • Communicate legal advice and assistance to clients under attorney supervision.
  • Maintain a caseload under attorney supervision.
  • Provide technical and research assistance to attorneys as approved.
  • Maintain physical and electronic files in the case management system.
  • Provide information about Agency services to the public.
  • Refer eligible and ineligible clients to other organizations for assistance.
  • Close files, including organizing and uploading documents to the case management system.
  • Perform translation and interpretation if bilingual.
  • Participate in outreach programs.
  • Acclimate new employees to intake procedures and services.

Requirements

  • Associate degree or certification in paralegal studies.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft programs, primarily Word.
  • Strong organizational skills.

  • $58,862 - $81,221 DOE, union scale
