About the Role

Empire Life is seeking a highly analytical and strategic Senior Financial Analyst to act as a core finance partner for the Information Technology department. This role bridges Corporate Finance and Technology, driving the end-to-end planning cycle, optimizing IT spending, and providing insights on technology investments. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem-solver skilled in financial modeling, variance analysis, and translating complex data into executive-ready narratives.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the consolidation and analysis of overall IT budgets and forecasts, preparing executive presentation slides and explaining variances.
  • Partner closely with business leaders and Cost-Benefit Analysis (CBA) owners to update actuals, forecast numbers, and collaboratively explain variances.
  • Develop robust financial models to forecast subsequent year expenses based on current-year trends.
  • Provide financial oversight and support for IT expense optimization.
  • Drive FinOps initiatives by partnering with technical teams to manage, monitor, and report on Cloud infrastructure expenses.
  • Support Project Managers with rigorous reporting on project financials and external vendor spend.
  • Manage comprehensive forecasting cycles including salary, benefits, and CPIP transfers, as well as external vendor and project actuals.
  • Forecast and monitor IT investments by developing and updating Cost-Benefit Analyses (CBAs).
  • Track the Return on Investment (ROI) of previous years' CBAs and model the future financial impact of planned IT investments.
  • Maintain and track core Financial KPIs for the IT organization.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvements across financial data, models, and overall reporting processes.
  • Perform rapid, ad-hoc financial analysis for IT stakeholders, including YoY growth studies.

Requirements

  • Completion of a university degree or Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field such as business, accounting, finance, economics, mathematics, statistics, or information systems.
  • 5+ years of progressive professional experience in accounting, corporate finance, investment administration, or tax compliance frameworks, preferably in the insurance or financial services sector.
  • Advanced financial modeling skills (Excel) and experience with enterprise planning tools.
  • Familiarity with Cloud billing (FinOps) and Gartner benchmarking frameworks is a major asset.
  • Advanced knowledge of spreadsheet and database software with high proficiency in financial modeling, data query toolsets (SQL/ETL principles), relational databases, and core ledger architectures.
  • Proven ability to build relationships with non-finance stakeholders (e.g., IT Directors, Project Managers) and guide them through complex financial concepts.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication traits, with proven comfort presenting synthesized findings to senior leaders and negotiating transactional outcomes with external stakeholders.
  • Strong structural organization, with the capacity to prioritize multiple tasks and handle confidential information while working under intense deadlines.
  • English language proficiency is required for communicating with customers, advisors, or employees across Canada.
