About the Role

As a (Senior) Manager IT Strategy & IT Modernization, you will guide clients in the strategic development and sustainable modernization of their IT. You will connect strategic consulting with broad technological understanding and a vision for the future of IT, acting as a generalist with strategic foresight and a clear vision for modern IT landscapes. You will understand the interplay between technology, organization, sourcing, costs, and business to derive viable target states, decision-making bases, and transformation paths. Your responsibilities will include cloud and hybrid cloud strategies, IT infrastructure, data centers, workplace, identity & access management, IT operating models, strategic sourcing, cost optimization, and IT aspects of M&A transactions. You will also actively engage with new technologies and trends, evaluating the strategic and economic benefits of modern AI and automation solutions, deriving application fields, and utilizing them for your consulting work and for clients. You will take ownership of complex transformation programs, collaborate directly with CIOs and their leadership teams, and develop solutions that are strategically convincing, technologically sound, economically sensible, and implementable. Additionally, you will drive the expansion of our Competence Center with your experience and network.

Responsibilities

  • Develop IT strategies and strategic target states for modern, high-performing, and future-proof IT landscapes, from current state assessment to strategic action areas and transformation roadmaps.
  • Advise clients on IT modernization, particularly in IT infrastructure, cloud, data centers, workplace, and identity & access management.
  • Develop cloud, hybrid-cloud, and IT infrastructure strategies, evaluating suitable target architectures and deployment models (On-Premises, Private Cloud, Public Cloud, SaaS).
  • Analyze and develop IT operating models and service delivery models focusing on clear responsibilities, efficiency, scalability, controllability, and resilience.
  • Develop strategic sourcing models, conduct make-or-buy assessments, and support tender processes, provider selection, transition, and ongoing provider management.
  • Advise on IT transformations within M&A transactions, including IT due diligence, carve-outs, separations, and post-merger integrations, developing target states, transition, and integration roadmaps.
  • Analyze existing IT cost structures and identify cost and efficiency potentials through consolidation, standardization, cloud transformation, sourcing, or operating model optimization.
  • Develop robust business cases and decision-making foundations for strategic technology, sourcing, and transformation decisions.
  • Conceptualize the further development of data center and infrastructure landscapes, including consolidation, exit, migration, and modernization scenarios.
  • Advise on the strategic development of identity & access management and workplace architectures as integral components of modern IT target states.
  • Evaluate new technologies, especially modern AI and automation solutions, for their strategic, operational, and economic benefits, deriving concrete application fields for clients.
  • Utilize modern technologies and AI-supported solutions in consulting work to continuously improve analysis, conception, and delivery.
  • Take responsibility for managing complex consulting programs related to strategy, transformation, migration, integration, separation, and transition (both classic and agile).
  • Support clients from strategic decision-making to implementation, ensuring stability, service quality, and economic efficiency during and after transformation.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in IT, strategy, or management consulting, or a comparable consulting-adjacent environment (e.g., in-house consulting), where you have managed demanding client projects.
  • Technological generalist with strategic foresight and a broad understanding of modern IT landscapes, without losing sight of technological depth and implementability.
  • In-depth experience in developing IT strategies and designing complex IT transformations, with a good understanding of the key technological, organizational, and economic levers of modern IT.
  • Expertise in several of the following areas: IT infrastructure, cloud and hybrid cloud, data centers, workplace, identity & access management, IT operating models, strategic sourcing, or IT cost optimization.
  • Experience in IT transformations related to M&A (e.g., carve-outs, post-merger integrations, separations, IT due diligence) is advantageous.
  • Experience in developing sourcing strategies, make-or-buy decisions, provider selection, or provider management, with a good understanding of commercial and technological contexts.
  • Actively engage with new technologies, especially Artificial Intelligence, realistically assess their relevance and benefits, and derive concrete application fields for consulting and clients from technological possibilities.
  • Ability to distinguish between short-term trends and sustainably relevant developments, and to contextualize them within the client's specific situation.
  • Experience in program and project management of complex consulting mandates, from strategic conception to implementation and transition.
  • Enjoy connecting strategic, technological, and economic issues, and structuring complex issues for management-level communication.
  • Strong rhetorical skills for engaging with executives, CIOs, IT managers, and business departments, along with a confident, structured, and committed demeanor in client situations.
  • Analytical thinking, strategic planning, and pragmatic execution, combined with the ability to develop solutions beyond established standards.
  • Fluent German and English language skills.
