About the Role
Lead Engineer is responsible for the development, expansion, planning, design, maintenance, and operation of the system and its equipment to meet organizational objectives. This role coordinates the evaluation of system failures and resolutions, supports operations on unplanned maintenance, and ensures the design of transmission and distribution systems meet high-quality standards for safe, reliable, and environmentally sound electric service. The position shares accountability for the organization’s Life Cycle Plan and supervises other Engineers and staff.
Responsibilities
- Supervises, coaches, and develops engineers; approves time and conducts performance reviews.
- Assigns, prioritizes and directs work performed by at least 2 FTE Engineers.
- Responsible for the cost and performance of certain assets on the system, including reliability analysis and trending of system events and monitoring of equipment condition.
- Responsible for the development, justification and approval of the Life Cycle Plan activities over a multi-year horizon and for ongoing projects.
- Ensures that the design and specification of additions, modifications and replacements to the transmission and distribution systems, and the preparation of system electrical permits and related customer notifications, are completed accurately and on time.
- Responsible for the development of preliminary engineering designs and the details, as necessary.
- Collaborates with other Engineers within Engineering to ensure consistency and teamwork.
- Provides technical support and direction to operating areas relative to system priorities, engineering guidelines and operating decisions during normal and emergency situations.
- Accountable for root-cause analysis, development and implementation of corrective actions.
- Responsible for the evaluation and selection of technology and equipment for the system.
- Responsible for the development of standards and procedures for design, operation and maintenance.
- Assumes the role of the Manager as required.
- Assist with storm duty and any other major events.
- Responding to emergency situations to meet customers’ needs is part of every employee’s role.
- May be called to assist during an emergency outside of normal responsibilities, work hours and location.
Requirements
- Applicants requiring visa sponsorship to start employment with Eversource will not be considered.
- Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required.
- Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.
- Work is performed primarily in an office environment which requires sitting, standing, walking and climbing stairs are involved.
- Job can require traveling to operating districts and companies within and outside the state.
- Position may require occasional to significant travel by car.
- A valid driver’s license is required.
- Work involves calculating, comparing, technical writing, editing, planning, evaluating, interpreting, organizing, consulting, analyzing, designing, documenting, specifying, coordinating, implementing and presenting.
- Work is performed under pressure while involving significant business commitments and results.
Skills
- Knowledge of utility power systems is preferred.

Experience Level
- Minimum of eight (8) years in the technical, operational, or engineering aspects of the electrical utility industry.
- Supervisory experience preferred.
Education Level
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering is required.
- Electrical Engineering degree preferred
Salary/Compensations
- $145,670.00-$161,860.00

- Substation Engineering is responsible for working on substation design, maintenance, and support, optimizing the cost and performance of substation equipment on the transmission/distribution system.
- Substation Engineering also supports emergent and/or equipment failures, as necessary, to support operations.
- This role would be working with ISO-NE on all Transmission level interconnects of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), Solar Farms, and traditional generation requests.
- Substation review for upgrades and replacements to allow for Distributed Energy Resource (DER) interconnects into the distribution system are also reviewed as part of this position.
