About the Role

The Finance and Commercial Officer provides integrated financial, administrative, and commercial support for industry-facing activities and internal procurement functions within the Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group (CASG) in London. The role operates under limited direction, contributing to financial management, procurement, and logistics outcomes in line with Defence policies and governance frameworks.

Responsibilities

  • Support the delivery of financial management activities for CASG London, including maintaining commitment registers, managing acquittals, and contributing to budget tracking and forecasting.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial data and reporting to meet Defence financial compliance and governance requirements.
  • Coordinate financial processes with the Defence Administration team in London.
  • Process financial transactions and respond to financial queries from stakeholders and partners.
  • Monitor and action procurement, finance, and workflow activities within ERP systems.
  • Coordinate invoice processing and supplier payments, ensuring accurate financial coding and timely reconciliation.
  • Provide administrative and coordination support to procurement and freight activities.
  • Maintain procurement, financial, and contract records for audit, compliance, and reporting.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement of financial and procurement processes.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience in finance, procurement, commercial, or administrative roles within a government, defence, or regulated environment.
  • Sound understanding of financial management processes, including budgeting, forecasting, and expenditure tracking.
  • Experience working with ERP systems (e.g., SAP) or equivalent financial/procurement systems.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Well-developed communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to work independently within established procedures, applying sound judgment and initiative.
  • Ability to adhere to Defence policies, procedures, and values.
  • Commitment to maintaining high standards of accuracy, integrity, and accountability.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an Australian Government Security Clearance (Baseline or above).
  • Must hold citizenship of Australia, New Zealand, USA, UK, or Canada.
