About the Role
The New York Times is seeking a correspondent to cover Elon Musk's artificial intelligence work for the Business desk. This role involves reporting on AI's implications across Musk's companies and his competition with other industry leaders in various strategic areas.
Responsibilities
- Generate original reporting on news, events, and trends related to Musk and his AI efforts.
- Build a network of sources to inform reports, news, and features.
- Write with authority, clarity, and independently.
- Handle breaking news and write thoughtfully about events, issues, finances, and people.
- Write medium- and long-term enterprise pieces and occasional features.
- Cover news accurately and efficiently, maintain and cultivate news sources, and obtain information through interviews, observations, and research.
- Present facts and analysis clearly, adhering to Times style and requirements.
- Develop high-impact stories from broader themes.
- Write on deadline and incorporate feedback and edits.
- Contribute to and lead live briefings, participate in planning meetings, and provide live coverage.
- Demonstrate support for journalistic independence and the company's mission.
Requirements
- 5+ years of significant beat reporting and writing experience.
- Demonstrated ability to produce crisply written, well-organized stories that engage readers.
- Experience as a collaborator and ability to partner with colleagues across the newsroom.
- Proven success in building and cultivating sources.
- Experience reporting on companies.
