About the Role

Assist the Senior Credit Officer (SCO) or Credit Officer (CO) in executing Commercial Lending Loan portfolio strategies to achieve organizational goals, ensure regulatory compliance, and adhere to credit policy. Develop and recommend lending practices for credit quality, provide guidance to a team, and establish effective risk management practices. Identify revenue opportunities within the existing portfolio.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the execution of portfolio credit risk management activities to ensure credit quality and support risk-balanced growth of large and complex Commercial Lending Loan portfolios.
  • Perform detailed analysis and quality underwriting of commercial loan proposals, including complex relationships.
  • Partner with Commercial Relationship Managers and Regional Managers to establish and maintain customer relationships.
  • Ensure timely and accurate underwriting for all renewals, extensions, annual reviews, and new requests.
  • Monitor portfolio reports, including maturing loans, financial exceptions, annual reviews, post-closing and documentation exceptions, financial covenants, watchlist, and past due loans.
  • Review and consult on the largest and most complex credit relationships, recommending approval, denial, or alternative structuring solutions.
  • Identify deviations from Commercial Loan Policy and prepare comprehensive written analysis, summarizing risk and recommending risk ratings.
  • Review analyses performed by Credit Analysts and incorporate into overall risk assessment.
  • Recommend and approve credit decisions within established authority, ensuring adherence to laws, regulations, and company guidelines.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior credit staff.
  • Offer credit and compliance expertise in evaluating risk ratings and guiding team revision recommendations.
  • Ensure all required documentation is collected and maintained per policy.
  • Proactively identify deteriorating loans through monitoring reports and report deteriorating credit situations promptly.
  • Maintain overall credit quality by identifying the impact of economic and market trends and mitigating risks.
  • Analyze secondary sources of repayment, such as collateral, assessing marketability in a liquidation scenario.
  • Analyze guarantor financial positions through investigation of personal financial statements and tax returns.
  • Prepare comprehensive written analysis for loan proposals, including financial statements, cash flow trends, management profiles, and economic research.
  • Assign a credit risk rating.
  • Ensure loan terms and conditions adhere to credit policy and comply with federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of tools and practices for sound decision-making.
  • Manage production and monitor workflow for the credit team, potentially managing Credit Portfolio Managers and/or Credit Analysts.
  • Potentially manage criticized and classified credits.

Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of the commercial lending process with expertise in credit evaluation, underwriting, and portfolio monitoring.
  • Proven ability to analyze participation loans and loans with complex covenant structures.
  • Expert knowledge of credit approval policy and process, with the ability to interpret and apply lending policy to portfolio management.
  • Knowledge of qualitative portfolio analytics and metrics, utilizing automated and manual analytical tools for complex lending scenarios.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of applicable banking regulations and laws governing commercial lending.
  • Detailed knowledge of credit and financial analysis tools and techniques.
  • Ability to identify and quantify business risks and drivers of risk, understanding the bank's portfolio mix, concentration, and exposure limits.
  • Ability to understand client industry and its fit into portfolio parameters.
  • Good working knowledge of bank operating systems and information technology related to Commercial Lending.
  • Proven expertise in managing credit approvals and policy.
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional internal and external relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide guidance and leadership to less seasoned staff.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to clearly and concisely communicate financial analysis detail.
  • Confidence in presenting to senior management and/or Management Credit Committee.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize in a multi-task environment and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, specifically Word and Excel.
  • Internal contacts consist of customers in portfolio and Bank personnel.
  • External contacts consist of outside COI's including accountants and attorneys.
  • Office environment.
  • Ability to operate a computer.
  • Ability to communicate to exchange information with individuals and groups.
  • Ability to travel throughout Bank footprint.

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or Economics, or equivalent work experience
