About the Role
Establish and maintain a high-quality standard of cleanliness and timely maintenance of the child care centre.
Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain a clean and safe environment in and around the Child Care Centre.
- Maintain the inside of the building, including mopping, sweeping, vacuuming, dusting, laundry, garbage removal, window washing, wall cleaning, and washroom sanitation.
- Maintain the outside of the building and grounds, including debris removal and seasonal maintenance like cleaning eaves troughs, cutting grass, and snow/ice removal.
- Keep playgrounds clean and free of debris, and maintain fences and gates in good working order.
- Carry out minor repairs to buildings, equipment, and kitchen equipment.
- Follow a seasonal maintenance schedule for caretaking equipment.
- Manage an appropriate inventory of cleaning and maintenance supplies, ensuring proper storage.
Requirements
- Experience as a general handyperson with significant experience in minor repairs to buildings and maintenance of large and small machinery.
- Understanding and working knowledge of Toronto Public Health and Ontario Health and Safety requirements.
- WHMIS Certified with a general understanding and application of best practices for alternative “green” products and practices.
- Able to work independently and as a member of a Child Care Centre team.
- Ability to do heavy lifting over 20lbs and use a ladder.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective work partnerships with parents/families, colleagues, and service providers of diverse backgrounds, abilities, and identities.
- Acceptable Vulnerable Sector Police Reference Check.
Skills
- Ability to communicate effectively in more than one language is an asset.
- Excellent time management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize.
