About the Role
UpGuard is seeking a leader to own the entire enterprise technology stack, including security and infrastructure, identity, end-user compute, networking, and cloud platform. This role is unique as security is integrated into the foundation of the technology stack, rather than being a separate function. The ideal candidate will have a background in running infrastructure or operations at scale with security layered over it. You will lead a team across IT Operations, Security Operations, Cloud Platform Engineering, and GRC, with a focus on maturing security operations and leveraging automation. As customer zero, you will use UpGuard's Cyber Risk Posture Management platform extensively, providing valuable feedback to Product, Sales, and Customer Success teams.
Responsibilities
- Own the full technology and security remit, including enterprise infrastructure, security, identity, applications, and workplace technology.
- Lead and grow IT & Security Operations, Cloud Platform Engineering, and GRC functions.
- Mature security operations by building detection, analytics, orchestration, and response capabilities.
- Own identity management (IAM) and identity governance and administration (IGA) across the global workforce.
- Own the network and cloud perimeter, implementing Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA).
- Own end-user compute globally, managing a predominantly macOS fleet and enterprise managed browser services for BYOD.
- Own workspace technology and physical security services for offices.
- Own the compliance program, including SOC-2 Type II and ISO 27001.
- Act as customer zero, utilizing and providing feedback on UpGuard's platform.
- Communicate effectively at the executive level, including to the Steering Committee and the Board.
Requirements
- Proven track record of personally building and operating technology at scale, with security layered over it.
- Experience running a data center, infrastructure function, or substantial operations function where security became a remit.
- Demonstrated ability to achieve significant results with limited resources, prioritizing automation over headcount.
- Genuine comfort owning infrastructure, security, applications, and identity concurrently.
- Hands-on credibility with the ability to architect controls, review code, and lead incidents.
- Substantial Google Cloud Platform (GCP) experience strongly preferred; deep AWS or Azure experience considered.
- Experience with zero trust access, identity-centric security models, and modern SaaS estate management.
- Accountable ownership of a compliance program (e.g., SOC 2, ISO 27001) through audit.
- Ability to absorb context quickly and operate effectively in a fast-paced, high-growth, remote-first environment.
- High-energy, self-directed, and relentless personal drive.
