About the Role

Maven Securities is seeking a global employment law owner to manage all employee relations matters end-to-end. This is a new role with a broad global remit, reporting directly to the Chief Legal Officer. You will advise senior leadership and set the standard for handling people issues across all jurisdictions where Maven employs.

Responsibilities

  • Own all group-wide ER Legal matters, including disciplinary, grievance, performance, absence, restructuring, and contentious issues.
  • Serve as the primary contact for managers and HR, providing same-day responses for time-critical issues.
  • Execute cases using a consistent playbook to ensure uniform outcomes.
  • Identify patterns, enhance processes and policies, and improve outcomes.
  • Advise founders, C-suite, Chief People Officer, and CLO on employment risks with clear, commercial recommendations.
  • Provide practical solutions alongside legal advice, detailing risks and recommended actions.
  • Escalate strategic, precedent-setting, or reputationally material issues to the CLO.
  • Manage employment tribunal claims and international equivalents, including ACAS early conciliation.
  • Lead enforcement of restrictive covenants, non-solicitation agreements, bonus disputes, and contentious exits, instructing external counsel as needed.
  • Oversee employment contracts, policies, and handbooks globally, ensuring they remain current with legislative changes.
  • Develop global templates for consistency in bonus letters, policies, settlement agreements, restrictive covenants, and staff communications.
  • Implement an annual policy review program to proactively address issues.
  • Establish a coordination protocol for consistency in group-wide matters.
  • Manage local counsel for jurisdiction-specific requirements and identify cross-border inconsistencies.
  • Integrate AI and legal technology into employment workflows.
  • Create templates, playbooks, and self-service materials for managers to handle routine matters and escalate appropriately.
  • Build trusted relationships with managers and HR to encourage early escalation of issues.
  • Deliver practical training to HR, managers, and the legal team.
  • Manage the employment panel and associated external spend.

Requirements

  • Qualified solicitor in England and Wales with approximately 6 to 10 years of PQE, primarily in employment law.
  • Strong contentious track record with direct experience running tribunal claims.
  • Comfortable advising senior stakeholders directly and confidently holding a position in high-level discussions.
  • Commercial and practical approach, able to articulate the significance of legal clauses in specific contexts.
  • Ability to operate independently as the sole specialist in the subject matter, with sound judgment for escalation.
  • In-house experience in financial services, particularly trading, hedge funds, or similar high-performance environments (desirable).
