About the Role

Zayo Europe is seeking a technically strong and commercially aware Packet Product Architect to shape, scale, and evolve Zayo’s packet product portfolio. This role bridges Product, Engineering, Architecture, and Operations, translating product strategy into scalable and operationally ready network capabilities. The Product Architect will provide technical leadership across the packet product lifecycle, from roadmap input and architecture design through to release delivery, operational onboarding, technical standards, and support for complex customer solutions. The role requires packet networking expertise, strong commercial awareness, and the ability to turn technical capabilities into repeatable, cost-effective, and customer-focused product outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Commercial Product Manager to provide technical input into the packet product roadmap, shaping priorities based on network capability, product strategy, customer requirements, cost optimisation, and operational scalability.
  • Deliver roadmap releases, coordinating technical readiness, architecture alignment, release standards, documentation, and operational onboarding.
  • Drive adoption of new technologies, features, and network capabilities that improve product performance, scalability, cost efficiency, and customer outcomes.
  • Design network architecture to support product expansion, new capabilities, resilience, performance, and cost-effective delivery.
  • Own the product cost base, working with Product, Finance, Engineering, and Operations to understand cost drivers and identify optimisation opportunities.
  • Define, document, and maintain product standards, technical playbooks, delivery procedures, and operational handover materials.
  • Engage with Operations and Engineering teams to lead network route planning and standardisation to improve consistency, scalability, performance, resilience, and operational efficiency.
  • Liaise, onboard, and train Operations teams on new technology releases, product enhancements, standards, and delivery processes.
  • Ensure new products, features, and capabilities are operationally ready, supportable, and aligned to Zayo’s engineering standards.
  • Act as the technical product authority for the Packet portfolio, providing expert guidance on complex or bespoke customer solutions.
  • Provide Tier 4 product support to Solution Engineers, Solution Architects, and technical delivery teams.
  • Work closely with Commercial Product Managers, Engineering, Architecture, and Operations to align technical execution with product strategy.
  • Use product, network, cost, and operational data to identify improvement opportunities and drive continuous optimisation across the Packet portfolio.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in a Product Solutions Architect, Product Architect, Solution Architect, Network Architect, or similar role within telecoms, network connectivity, or Layer 2 / Layer 3 services.
  • Strong understanding of packet networking, IP services, routing, peering, Ethernet, DIA, IP Transit, VPN, and underlying network architecture.
  • Experience translating customer, product, and commercial requirements into scalable, standardised, and supportable technical solutions.
  • Experience supporting complex or bespoke customer solutions with Solution Engineering, Product, Engineering, Architecture, and Operations teams.
  • Strong awareness of product cost drivers, cost optimisation, and the commercial impact of technical design decisions.
  • Experience creating or maintaining solution playbooks, technical standards, delivery procedures, and product documentation.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical solutions to technical, commercial, and senior stakeholders.
  • Self-starter with a strong delivery mindset and the ability to lead through influence in a fast-paced, global, matrixed organisation.
