About the Role
The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for performing preventative and corrective maintenance on diesel-powered equipment, including cranes, forklifts, tractor trailers, and other heavy equipment. This role troubleshoots and repairs diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical and onboard computer systems, brakes, booms, outriggers, pumps, and other mechanical components. The Diesel Mechanic works closely with equipment operators and fellow mechanics to identify issues, complete repairs, and help ensure equipment remains safe, reliable, and ready for operation.
Responsibilities
- Performing PM and corrective maintenance on diesel engines, booms, electrical systems (including troubleshooting onboard computer systems), hydraulic systems (booms, outriggers, pumps), brakes and other basic components
- Working on hydraulic and conventional cranes, forklifts, tractor trailers and miscellaneous equipment
- Working well and communicating effectively with operators and other mechanics
- Managing branch resources throughout the maintenance lifecycle
Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in diesel maintenance with proven troubleshooting skills
- Ability to work safely in a fast-paced environment – many times under pressure
- Experience with Cummins and CAT diesel engines and systems
- Experience in gasoline and propane engines
- Proven ability to read electrical and hydraulic schematics
- Must have current CDL
- Creative thinking skills to make continuous improvements
- Willingness to work day and or night shifts, weekends and holidays
- Must pass drug test, fit for duty test and background check
- Basic computer skills, Excel skills, and the ability to work with digital record keeping
