About the Role

Modo Energy's engineering team builds the systems behind the Modo Terminal, a data, research, and agentic platform for energy market professionals. We are expanding our capabilities with AI-assisted tools and natural language interfaces. Frontend engineers will join product teams, owning their stack end-to-end and contributing to a shared TypeScript, React, and Next.js codebase within a monorepo. The role involves rapid, AI-assisted development and adherence to a company-wide design system.

Responsibilities

Help shape the technical direction of our frontend monorepo to scale with the team and product.
Design and build components in our internal UI library (built on MUI).
Build and improve high-performance, low-latency interfaces for live market data.
Write well-tested code using Jest, Cypress, or Playwright.
Contribute to team processes for code review and documentation.
Balance shipping new features with maintenance, performance, and production issue resolution.
Collaborate with design and domain experts (energy analysts, data scientists) to bridge design and engineering.
Contribute to backend and infrastructure basics related to features, such as API changes, deployment fixes, or data pipeline adjustments.

Requirements

3+ years of professional frontend development experience.
Excellent TypeScript, React, and Next.js skills.
Experience with MUI or a similar component library.
Solid testing practice with frameworks like Jest and Cypress or Playwright.
Proficiency with Git, Docker, and CI/CD workflows.
Familiarity with monorepo structures and tools (Turborepo, Yarn Workspaces, or similar).
Fluency with AI-assisted development tools (Cursor, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or similar).
An eye for design (UI/UX) to build polished, aesthetically pleasing interfaces.
Ability to learn fast, make decisions on component design, and ship effectively.
Comfortable working in a small, fast-moving team with autonomy.
Startup or scale-up experience is a plus.
Familiarity with Python is a plus.
Experience with energy markets is a plus.
