About the Role

CAKE Mortgage is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design and build our custom TPO platform, a web application for broker partners to originate loans. This individual contributor role offers ownership from design through production support within a small, high-leverage engineering team. We are looking for an AI-native developer proficient in our stack (TypeScript, React, NestJS, Postgres on Azure) with required mortgage industry experience.

Responsibilities

Design and build the custom TPO platform, including the broker-facing web application, its backend services, and its integrations.
Integrate with business systems like Encompass, pricing engines, and vendor services.
Own work through production, including containers, CI/CD, deployment, monitoring, and incident response.
Write clean, tested TypeScript in React and NestJS, review code, and set quality standards.
Utilize AI development tools daily and build AI features into products.
Collaborate with operations, sales, and leadership to translate business needs into software.
Ensure data security through secure development practices in a regulated industry.
Mentor other engineers and contribute to technical direction.
Undertake other assigned technical projects.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.
6+ years of experience building and supporting production software.
Required mortgage industry experience; Encompass and wholesale/TPO experience strongly preferred.
Strong TypeScript skills with experience in React and NestJS or a comparable Node.js framework.
Experience designing and supporting REST APIs, relational databases (Postgres), and third-party integrations.
Experience with containers, CI/CD, and cloud platforms (Azure).
Proficiency with AI development tools; experience shipping LLM-powered features is a plus.
Ability to independently take an ambiguous problem from idea to shipped, supported software.
Strong judgment on tradeoffs between speed, quality, and scope, with clear communication skills.
Excellent communication skills with both technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
