About the Role
The Associate Development Manager will support associate staffing, utilization, integration, and development within the Litigation department, working closely with practice group leadership and Professional Development and Legal Talent teams.
Responsibilities
- Manage the work allocation process for associates in collaboration with practice group leaders and partners.
- Monitor associate workloads and professional development, ensuring equitable distribution of assignments.
- Track, aggregate, and analyze associate metrics, including availability and utilization rates.
- Partner with practice group leaders to achieve individual and group productivity goals.
- Coordinate with practice group leaders to identify staffing needs and hiring targets, partnering with Legal Talent on hiring efforts.
- Support the associate performance review process by ensuring timely and quality reviews.
- Monitor associate evaluations, prepare review delivery scripts, and facilitate formal reviews.
- Work with associates to implement feedback and provide coaching in collaboration with the Professional Development team.
- Meet regularly with practice group leaders to identify high-performing associates and those facing challenges for targeted support.
- Facilitate frequent feedback between partners and associates.
- Partner with Legal Talent and other departments to facilitate attorney onboarding and integration.
- Conduct department orientation for new hires and build onboarding schedules.
- Conduct exit interviews to gather feedback for improving the associate experience.
- Collaborate with Professional Development and Legal Education teams to develop and enhance training programs.
- Ensure associates obtain and maintain licensure requirements and engage in continuing legal education.
- Champion and implement Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives and events.
- Promote best practices for an inclusive culture and serve as a resource for diverse attorneys.
- Collaborate with HR/Wellness teams to promote associate wellness.
- Perform other duties as assigned or required.
Requirements
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, iManage, and other firm applications after orientation.
- Previous direct experience with staffing and work allocation in a large law firm or professional services organization, or combined law firm professional development and prior law practice experience, preferably in a large law firm environment.
