About the Role
The Vice President, Facilities Operations provides leadership, strategic vision, and tactical execution for QTS's diverse facilities needs. This role integrates corporate real estate management, financial analysis, master planning, new construction, and direct facilities management, including infrastructure maintenance, data center operations, and business continuity/disaster recovery for all owned and leased properties. The position also involves managing multi-million dollar annual capital and expense budgets.
Responsibilities
- Maintain, establish, and implement facilities policies, procedures, and organizational structure within senior management and corporate policy guidelines, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Develop, direct, and monitor short-term and long-range business plans aligned with company profit and growth objectives, establishing operations standards for cost control, waste reduction, quality, safety, and environmental responsibility.
- Supervise the preparation and implementation of effective operating budgets for each Data Center in their assigned region.
- Oversee the operations budget to ensure compliance with organizational expenditure requirements.
- Ensure proactive delivery of corporate services, including space planning, power and cooling, headcount projections, planning, budgeting, capital projects, maintenance, janitorial services, landscaping, and business continuity/disaster recovery for facilities through a team of Data Center Directors and leaders.
- Provide matrixed leadership with Regional Leaders and other line of business owners to achieve operational standards.
- Negotiate improvement project contracts for leased and owned real estate.
- Confer with professional staff to resolve operational problems, authorize operational procedures, and approve major estimates.
- Maintain positive relationships and communication with staff and executive-level management.
- Utilize comparative evaluations and key performance indicators to monitor the effectiveness of operational programs at each Data Center.
- Ensure facilities' compliance with all governmental operating guidelines.
- Obtain and maintain all necessary licenses, permits, and certifications.
- Participate in community activities and organizations through professional association affiliations and program participation.
- Drive innovation into facilities programs and systems with an environmentally conscious approach.
- Participate on acquisition teams to assess potential facilities.
Requirements
- Bachelor degree in Business, Engineering, Architecture, a related area, or equivalent professional experience.
- Ten or more years of experience in facilities management, Data Center management, corporate/military engineering, or a related field.
- Three or more years of people management experience, with experience in managing teams virtually preferred.
- Strong knowledge of related regulations and laws.
- General knowledge of electrical systems, mechanical systems, maintenance, environmental codes, and safety codes.
- Working knowledge of construction practices, building codes, and project management.
- Experience with P&L responsibility, budgeting, and financial model development.

Experience Level
- Ten or more years’ experience in facilities management, Data Center management, corporate/military engineering, or other related field
- Three or more years’ people management experience
- Masters Degree (MBA, MPA, or Masters in Engineering or Construction Management or related field) or 15+ years related work experience and/or training
Education Level
- Bachelor degree in Business, Engineering, Architecture, related area or equivalent professional experience
