About the Role

The Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) provides comprehensive assessments and develops/implements treatment plans for clients with substance abuse histories. This role involves direct client work through individual and group counseling, advocating for a drug-free lifestyle within an interdisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Completes comprehensive evaluations to screen for substance use history.
• Identifies client treatment needs and collaborates with the team to develop Individual Service Plans.
• Utilizes assessments to establish risk for substance use and identify interventions for recovery.
• Provides individual and group counseling on substance use, relapse prevention, psychoeducation, and harm reduction.
• Advocates for clients in securing detox, rehabilitation care, and community supports.
• Serves as a liaison between OASAS treatment programs and CRF Transitional Housing Program.
• Refers clients to services with linked providers as needed.
• Conducts outreach and develops referral and service resources within the community.
• Documents all client contacts, assessments, and activities in case notes and client charts.
• Enters case notes and client activity in CARES or other reporting sources.
• Completes required reports.
• Participates in interdisciplinary team meetings, staff meetings, and staff training.
• Participates in the coordination of client ceremonies, events, and program activities.
• Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
• Pivots with changing priorities and newly added job responsibilities based on business needs.

Requirements

• Must have a CASAC - no CASAC-T.
• Valid OASAS certification required.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred with a minimum of one (1) year of experience navigating the substance use and mental health systems in NYC.
• Associate degree considered with a minimum of two (2) years navigating the substance use and mental health systems in NYC.
• High School Diploma/GED considered with a minimum of four (4) years experience navigating the substance use and mental health systems in NYC.
• Experience facilitating groups for homeless adults.
• Specialized knowledge of substance abuse issues and treatment.
• Specialized knowledge of family dynamics treatment.
• Experience working with dual diagnosed population.
• Ability to communicate verbally and in writing with Spanish-speaking populations is highly desirable.
• Must have incredible initiative.
• Ability to work well under pressure.
• Ability to be flexible and work both independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to complete complex projects in a fast-paced environment.
