About the Role

Advocates is seeking a Mentor (DSP/1:1 support staff) to support a single mother with an intellectual disability. She is looking for a Mentor to assist her with working on her goals both at home and in her community. Goals include: Recreational activities, Social skills, Independent living skills, and Personal goals.

Responsibilities

• Assist with working on goals both at home and in the community.
• Participate in recreational activities, hobbies, clubs, or classes of interest.
• Facilitate community connections, explore community resources, and promote appropriate social interactions.
• Support independent living skills such as grocery shopping, cooking, home maintenance, and personal care.
• Assist with personal goals, including exploring interests and prioritizing objectives.
• Electronically log time, mileage, and service documentation accurately.

Requirements

• Must be 18 years of age.
• Must have a valid email address.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and auto insurance if required for the job assigned.
• Must demonstrate sound decision-making skills.
• Must demonstrate understanding for the Agency mission.
• Must believe in the philosophy of person-centered services, self-advocacy, and the right and ability of people we serve to self-direct their supports and services.
• Must demonstrate patience and compassion.
• Must have the ability to read and comprehend instructions and correspondence.
• Must have the ability to write correspondence.
• Must have basic reasoning skills including the ability to analyze and problem solve.
• Must be able to tolerate a moderate noise level in the work environment and handle distractions.
• Ability to handle physical aspects of the job, including sitting, standing, using hands to reach, push, or lift up to 50 pounds.

Experience Level

• Previous experience working 1:1 in a related service environment preferred.

Salary/Compensations

• $16.00 - $36.00 Hourly
• $36 per hour when providing direct support.
• $16.00 per hour for indirect/training.
