About the Role
Leidos is seeking a Senior Distribution Engineer passionate about electric utility design engineering. This role involves working directly with clients to ensure exceptional project quality and gaining expertise in various design and engineering areas.
Responsibilities
- Perform design engineering for Leidos electric utility customers.
- Develop work packages for OH, UG, URD, and Make Ready, using customer GIS and WMS systems.
- Manage scope, schedule, and budget of assigned work.
- Perform functional tasks, planning, and customer follow-up.
- Perform scope analysis of assigned work and maintain schedule adherence to advocate client priorities.
- Initiate continuous improvement to workflow processes that drive efficiency and high-quality standards in client design deliverables.
- Gain experience in coordinating conflicting utilities and other field engineering design requirements.
- Assess and develop large design packages for complex cable/conduit projects in dense urban environments.
- Develop work permit applications, easements, and ROW applications.
- Be comfortable in both a field and office setting, potentially collecting field data for work packages.
- Provide estimated costs, development of a BOM, and calculating the CIAC.
- Perform Electrical Distribution Design using CAD or MicroStation.
- Provide Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) for Design Projects.
- Uptrain entry-level resources and create process documents.
Requirements
- 4+ years of prior relevant experience in electric utility or electric utility consulting company performing design engineering for electric distribution.
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required; must hold or be able to obtain licensure in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
- Demonstrated proficiency with the National Electric Safety Code (NESC).
- Prior experience with structural analysis, guying calcs, cable pulling calcs, coordination of protective devices, and electric demand and fault currents calculations.
- Ability to provide own reliable transportation for local or regional customer-related travel.
- Ability to demonstrate strong written, verbal and interpersonal communications skills.
- High level organization and project management skills.
- Ability to work with limited supervision.
