About the Role
The Department of Ambulatory Care Services at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Licensed Practical Nurse. Licensed Practical Nurses provide direct nursing care under the direction of a registered nurse, physician, or other licensed health care provider.
Responsibilities
- Perform nursing care tasks and procedures consistent with individual treatment plans and scope of practice.
- Assist registered nurses, physicians, or other licensed health care providers in identifying individual needs and developing plans to address goals.
- Administer medications and nursing procedures to individuals as prescribed.
- Obtain and record individuals’ temperatures, blood pressures, pulse rates, and other vital signs.
- Observe, monitor, and record individuals’ symptoms and conditions, identifying responses to medication or changes in health status.
- Prepare individuals for or assist with examinations and treatments.
- Maintain charts and other records of individuals’ conditions and/or administered treatments.
- Attend to individuals’ personal needs, including activities of daily living and hygiene tasks.
- Educate and counsel individuals and/or families regarding their health, medications, treatment goals, and procedures.
- Monitor supply inventories and complete requisition forms.
- Observe and supervise the activities of unlicensed direct care staff, including medication administration.
Requirements
- Must possess a license as a Practical Nurse in New York State.
- Must have current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
