About the Role
The Senior Accountant provides essential accounting support for a multi-state corporation at the corporate level. This role collaborates with the controller, accounting manager, and staff to support project cost accounting, financial statement preparation, trial balance reconciliations, audits, and other accounting functions. The Senior Accountant will leverage their understanding of company policies and GAAP to manage controls, budgets, and reporting systems, aiming to mitigate risk and improve financial reporting accuracy.
Responsibilities
- Prepare, examine, or analyze accounting and financial records, systems, and activities for accuracy and efficiency using GAAP.
- Collect and analyze data to identify control deficiencies, duplicated efforts, regulatory non-compliance, fraud, or mismanagement.
- Ensure compliance with ASC 842, including tracking leases, preparing journal entries, and collaborating with operations and legal on lease transactions.
- Report to management on asset utilization and audit results, recommending improvements.
- Review accounts for discrepancies and perform reconciliations.
- Analyze operations, monitor trends, costs, revenues, and obligations to project financial outcomes.
- Provide accounting support for large projects.
- Prepare documentation and support for internal and external audits.
- Perform closing process activities for corporate functions, including account analysis, journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations.
- Ensure compliance with internal policies and controls, including accounting policies, data integrity, asset protection, segregation of duties, budgeting, financial reporting, and information systems.
- Perform other duties as necessary and requested.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a senior accounting function.
- Lease accounting experience following guidance of ASC 842.
- Experience with mergers and acquisitions purchase accounting calculations support.
- ERP knowledge and experience required; MS Dynamics 365 experience highly preferred.
- Heavy experience with general ledger functions and knowledge of the month-end / year-end close process.
- Thorough knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- High-level and complex problem-solving skills, and ability to make informed decisions.
- Apply critical thinking, deductive and mathematical reasoning, analyses, and written and verbal comprehension skills.
- Ability to be self-motivated, organized, plan or prioritize work activities, and work within time constraints or deadlines.
- Advanced knowledge of Excel and other MS Office products.
