About the Role

Union Pacific is seeking passionate individuals to join their Train Crew team, contributing to the safe and timely movement of customers' freight. Previous railroad experience is not required as comprehensive training is provided. Career advancement opportunities include potential progression to Locomotive Engineer.

Responsibilities

• Inspect equipment, locomotives, and rail cars for safety.
• Perform tasks such as coupling equipment, aligning drawbars, operating remote control locomotives, applying and releasing hand brakes, riding rail cars, and replacing couplers/knuckles.
• Communicate effectively with crews, yard controllers, and dispatchers via radio and hand signals.
• Maintain accurate written and electronic documentation.
• Comply with all railroad rules and regulations pertaining to safety, operations, and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA).
• Perform additional duties as assigned by a supervisor.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Possess a valid driver's license.
• Maintain a clean driving record for the past 36 months, free from drug or alcohol-related incidents.
• Must not have been involved in diversion or probation, or pleaded guilty to a drug or alcohol-related driving incident.
• Must not have refused a drug or alcohol test related to motor vehicle operation.
• Successfully complete an assessment in English.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship.

Skills

• Normal color vision
• Adequate depth perception
• Ability to push, pull, lift, and carry objects weighing up to 85 lbs
• Ability to perform coordinated hand movements
• Ability to perform physically demanding tasks including bending, stooping, and kneeling
• Ability to bend, stoop, line switches, climb rail car ladders, maintain balance, and walk up to 5 miles on uneven terrain
• Ability to work at heights of 12 feet or more
• Ability to detect unusual sounds and smells

Salary/Compensations

• Approximately $80,000 in the first year
• Potential for over $100,000 annually with five years of service
