About the Role

The Cornell Cooperative Extension Ulster County (CCEUC) Family Education Coordinator develops and implements family educational programs focused on the health and welfare of Ulster County families. This role establishes a coordinated system of caregiver-focused education and support, managing programs like Relatives as Parents Program (RAPP), parenting education, caregiver support groups, youth programming, and community partnerships. The position also involves RAPP grant management and program development.

Responsibilities

Assist in reviewing program assessment to ensure alignment with statewide and Association Plan of Work.
Work with community partners to identify gaps and trends.
Apply subject matter knowledge to identify local program needs.
Make recommendations for programmatic offerings, enhancements, or improvements.
Develop educational strategies to meet the needs of diverse program participants.
Create innovative educational programs, utilizing existing resources and adapting curricula.
Utilize local community agencies and organizations as resources for program development.
Make programmatic changes based on program evaluation outcomes.
Create and implement lesson plans for parent and family educational programs.
Foster acceptance of program, methods, and policies.
Utilize a variety of educational methods, including direct teaching, guest speakers, group activities, social media, and distance learning.
Serve as a referral mechanism for families to appropriate community services.
Serve as a subject matter expert in the discipline for clientele, colleagues, community, decision makers, and funders.
Interact with program participants, representing CCE professionally.
Maintain linkages with Cornell subject matter specialists for program delivery guidance.
Represent CCE before the public, community leaders, government officials, funders, and universities.
Develop program evaluation framework and tools.
Implement program evaluation, analyze data, and communicate results.
Identify and recommend changes to strengthen and improve programs.
Provide administrative tasks to support educational program planning.
Develop educational program goals and strategies for parenting skills, nutrition, financial management, legal system navigation, and health and well-being.
Develop educational program goals and strategies for youth participants in STEM and life/career skills.
Assist in developing effective working relationships with Cornell faculty, administration, County departments, elected officials, and community leaders.
Provide input to the Issue Leader in planning program budget.
Assist with the development of grants and funding proposals.
Plan strategic marketing communications for the Relatives as Parents Program.
Assist Issue Leader in administrative and program management activities.
Assist in solving problems and resolving conflicts within the program.
Monitor program to ensure educational content conforms to research base, policies, and objectives.
Oversee the management of educational strategies for the Relatives as Parents Program.
Manage financial resources to accomplish program objectives.
Guide the implementation of communication strategies for the Relatives as Parents Program.
Perform supervisory tasks as applicable.
Allocate human resources and align staff skill sets for program objectives.
Provide oversight to program staff and volunteers.
Support volunteer recruitment and training.
Assist in the management of subcontractors.
Provide administrative support to the implementation of educational program goals.
Compile and prepare teaching materials for program delivery.
Coordinate program planning and implementation, including adult, youth, and intergenerational programs.
Collect evaluation and program needs assessment data.
Provide administrative support to accomplish financial goals, including grant proposals.
Submit reports, including impact statements and success stories.
Complete required financial documentation.
Coordinate marketing and promotion of the Relatives as Parents Program.
Coordinate and maintain an educational resource and referral system for Ulster County caregivers.
Jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan.
Collaborate in activities supporting Cornell Cooperative Extension.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Support the Association in maintaining a safe working environment.
Be familiar with and follow applicable federal, state, and local regulations, and Association health and safety policies.
Act proactively to prevent accidents/injuries and communicate hazards.
Maintain professional and respectful interactions with clientele, staff, volunteers, and the public.
Assist the Cornell Cooperative Extension system in reaching out to various audiences.
Adhere to established Cornell Cooperative Extension Association Ulster County policies and procedures.

Requirements

Master’s Degree in Human Ecology, Education, Sociology, Psychology or Related Field
Two years’ experience relevant to the role, particularly with support groups and/or working with kinship families
Demonstrated ability to lead and relate effectively to program staff, co-workers, advisors, community and professional leaders, clientele, and diverse groups/audiences.
Ability to involve people in determining program direction.
Ability to assist in grant writing and reporting.
Ability to communicate effectively through oral, written, and visual channels using traditional educational tools as well as digital media.
Strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to work effectively with advisory boards and committees, community and funding partners.
Ability and willingness to work with diverse audiences and maintain cultural sensitivity.
Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.
Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.
Fluency in Spanish.
Ability to design and implement an effective marketing plan for the program.
Familiarity with trauma-informed education practices.
Familiarity with evidence-based best practices for child development.
1-2 years’ experience working directly with youth with developmental disabilities.
