About the Role

This position serves as the Environmental Program Team Leader, responsible for leading the development, coordination, and implementation of Environmental and Natural Resources educational programming. The role involves managing administrative functions, supervising staff, and collaborating with various stakeholders to achieve program goals.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development, coordination, and implementation of all educational programs.
• Manage administrative functions related to Environmental and Natural Resources programming.
• Supervise Environmental and Natural Resource Program staff.
• Write and oversee the development of grant applications and scopes of work for contracts.
• Track finances and budgeting for grant and contract funds.
• Apply human resources, finance, and information technology policy.
• Develop programs consistent with Association programming goals.
• Work with diverse communities across Onondaga County, communicating effectively in urban, suburban, and rural settings using various delivery methods, including social media.
• Collaborate with other Cornell Cooperative Extension program areas and support an Association team approach.
• Lead program needs assessment for Environmental and Natural Resources Program offerings.
• Apply subject matter knowledge to identify gaps and trends in the community.
• Analyze program needs for participants and make recommendations for programmatic offerings.
• Utilize evaluation findings to modify and redirect educational programs.
• Maintain linkage with Cornell University faculty and other Land Grant Universities for program assessment guidance.
• Ensure program assessment aligns with the statewide Plan of Work.
• Apply subject matter knowledge to develop educational strategies for programming efforts.
• Develop innovative educational programs.
• Research, identify, and select existing educational resources, and identify additional resources required for new programs.
• Develop program materials to meet participant needs.
• Interpret Association program direction to create educational programs.
• Ensure program development is within the scope of the statewide Plan of Work.
• Structure programs to meet the needs of diverse participants.
• Apply subject matter knowledge to create lesson plans for delivering educational programs.
• Teach existing and innovative educational programs.
• Foster acceptance of the Environmental and Natural Resources Program, methods, and policies.
• Provide Environmental and Natural Resources educational program efforts via mass media.
• Serve as a subject matter expert in Environmental and Natural Resources.
• Represent Cornell Cooperative Extension before the public, community leaders, and government officials.
• Conduct educational programs utilizing a variety of methodologies.
• Ensure program delivery is within the scope of the statewide Plan of Work.
• Lead team efforts and cooperate with Association and Program staff to achieve program delivery goals.
• Design and implement program evaluation framework and process.
• Analyze collected program evaluation data.
• Interpret evaluation data to constituencies.
• Maintain linkage with Cornell University faculty and other Land Grant Universities for program evaluation guidance.
• Ensure program evaluation is within the scope of the statewide Plan of Work.
• Provide leadership in the development of educational strategies.
• Provide leadership in interpreting University program direction to plan educational programs.
• Provide leadership and planning in the development of the Environmental and Natural Resources Program budget.
• Provide leadership and planning in the development of a strategic marketing and communications plan.
• Manage and provide leadership oversight to ensure program content conforms to research base, policies, and objectives.
• Solve problems and resolve conflicts utilizing appropriate policies and procedures.
• Provide complex administrative tasks in guiding budget implementation.
• Manage allocation of financial resources to accomplish programming objectives.
• Provide management, supervision, and guidance to program staff and volunteers.
• Compile existing resources into educational program materials.
• Collect program evaluation and needs assessment data.
• Assist in coordinating program implementation, planning, and activities.
• Represent the Environmental and Natural Resources Program and Cornell Cooperative Extension at community functions.
• Coordinate and submit grant or other funding proposals.
• Contribute to the fulfillment of reporting requirements for grants and contracts.
• Transport program participants and/or materials as needed.
• Develop and pursue a professional development plan.
• Collaborate in activities supporting Cornell Cooperative Extension.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Support the Association in maintaining a safe working environment.
• Be familiar with and follow applicable regulations, policies, and procedures.
• Act proactively to prevent accidents and communicate hazards.

Requirements

• Master’s Degree.
• Two (2) years volunteer or related work experience.
• Valid NYS Driver License and ability to meet travel requirements.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and/or weekends.

Skills

• Master’s Degree in Natural Resources field (preferred).
• Three (3) years of experience in Natural Resources (preferred).
• Two (2) years’ experience in management and administration of others (preferred).
• Demonstrated ability to work outdoors under adverse conditions (preferred).
• Experience and demonstrated ability in leading and managing others (preferred).
• Experience and success at grant applications (preferred).
• Experience in finance and budgeting (preferred).
• Spanish Language Skills (preferred).
• Demonstrated ability to relate to diverse audiences.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively through oral, written, and visual means.
• Demonstrated ability to utilize computer technologies for educational and communication purposes.
