About the Role

The Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) is responsible for providing comprehensive assessments, developing and implementing treatment plans, and conducting individual and group counseling for clients with substance abuse issues. This role supports clients in advocating for a drug-free lifestyle and connecting them with necessary community resources.

Responsibilities

• Completes comprehensive evaluations to screen for substance use history and identify client treatment needs.
• Collaborates with the team to develop an Individual Service Plan with the client.
• Utilizes assessments to establish risk for substance use and identify interventions for recovery.
• Provides individual and group counseling on substance use, relapse prevention, psychoeducation, and harm reduction.
• Advocates for clients in securing detox, rehabilitation care, and other community supports.
• Serves as a liaison between OASAS treatment programs and CRF Transitional Housing Program.
• Refers clients to services with partner providers as needed.
• Conducts outreach to develop referral and service resources within the community.
• Documents all client contacts, assessments, and activities in case notes and client charts.
• Enters case notes and client activity in CARES or other reporting sources.
• Completes required reports.
• Participates in interdisciplinary team meetings, staff meetings, and staff training.
• Participates in the coordination of client ceremonies, events, and program activities.
• Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor or designee.
• Pivots with ever-changing priorities and newly added job-related responsibilities.

Requirements

• CASAC with a Valid OASAS certification required.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred with a minimum of one (1) year of experience navigating the substance use and mental health systems in NYC.
• Associate degree considered with a minimum of two (2) years’ experience navigating the substance use and mental health systems in NYC.
• High School Diploma/GED considered with a minimum of four (4) years’ experience navigating the substance use and mental health systems in NYC.
• Experience facilitating groups for homeless adults.
• Specialized knowledge of substance abuse issues and treatment.
• Specialized knowledge of family dynamics treatment.
• Experience working with the dual diagnosed population.
• Must have incredible initiative.
• Ability to work well under pressure.
• Ability to be flexible and work both independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to complete complex projects in a fast-paced environment.
• Demonstrated discretion in handling confidential information.
• May be required to work long hours and a varied schedule.
• Periodically may bend, lift, and carry objects weighing up to seventy-five pounds.
