About the Role

This is a temporary position to cover a 2nd semester sabbatical, beginning in January and ending in June. The role involves teaching 4 sections of English and serving as an advisor to approximately 12 students. We seek passionate teachers committed to anti-racist and identity-inclusive pedagogy to support students of all backgrounds.

Responsibilities

• Teach 4 sections of English.
• Serve as an advisor to a group of approximately 12 students.
• Participate fully in the academic and co-curricular life of the school.
• Further the mission of the school through participating in Advisory, Public Purpose, and DEI Programs.
• Attend routine curricular team meetings, department meetings, and faculty meetings.
• Hold office hours to support students when needed.

Requirements

• A preferred minimum of 3 years of experience in teaching students how to read, write, think and speak critically about literature and what it shows about the human experience.
• Several years experience teaching at the high school level, particularly 9th and 11th grades.
• Strong ability and experience with developing grade level curriculum in English Literature.
• Demonstrated cultural competency in text selection, assignments, and student feedback and support.
• A commitment to equity and anti-racist instruction.
• Demonstrated experience with effectively scaffolding student learning, including differentiated instruction for students across various academic and social backgrounds.
• A commitment to work collaboratively on a grade level team, as well as across disciplines.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
