About the Role

Responsibilities

  • Room patients, take and document vital signs, and prepare patients for provider.
  • Ensure completion of all necessary paperwork for new and established patients.
  • Review provider refill in-baskets and assist with medication requests.
  • Review EMR system triage in-baskets.
  • Review result notes and inform patients of normal lab results.
  • Coordinate pharmacogenomic testing.
  • Help plan, organize, and direct the Pediatric Behavioral Health Department’s clinic and administrative support functions.
  • Coordinate and streamline overall processes for Behavioral Health.
  • Contact patients overdue for follow-up to assist with scheduling and address barriers.
  • Follow up with at-risk patients to help keep them connected.
  • Coordinate and manage provider schedules.
  • Help connect patients to community resources.
  • Coordinate care with other care teams.
  • Ensure rooms are properly stocked with current and unexpired supplies.
  • Administer medication under physician's direction and within scope of practice.
  • Perform diagnostic testing such as EKGs, audiograms, typanograms, spirometry, and visual screenings.
  • Post patient test results through MyChart.
  • Clean patient rooms as needed, including proper handling of linens.
  • Refill medication per ARC refill protocols.
  • Assist providers with procedures by setting up equipment, assisting with patient preparation, and cleaning/storing equipment.
  • Maintain equipment (autoclaves, sterilizers, washes speculums, checks expiration dates, etc.).
  • Answer incoming phone calls to triage.
  • Determine call acuity (low or high) by demonstrating strong listening skills.
  • Assist patients in non-clinical situations if applicable.
  • Forward calls to appropriate clinical staff if clinical intervention is needed.
  • Track and handle ADD symptoms and questions, medication refill requests, referral questions, requests for lab/immunization records, requests for lab releasing to MyChart, lab results signed off by provider, general calls from pharmacies, and medication not covered by insurance.
  • Utilize smart phrases when taking phone messages and routing calls.
  • Train new employees.
  • Assist in scheduling staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Meet one of the following: Medical Assistant experience, CNA/EMT/PCT (or comparable) providing direct patient care beyond ADLs including manual vitals and medication/injection administration, or graduate of a medical assistant program.
  • Six (6) months or more experience as a Medical Assistant (Preferred).
  • Experience working in a behavioral health practice (Preferred).
  • Medical Assistant certification preferred.
  • Current AHA approved Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) course completion card or within 60 days of hire required.
  • Ability to administer medications and injections within scope of practice.
