About the Role
The Associate Sensory Scientist supports and maintains the Lactalis Passion for Taste program under the guidance of the Associate Sensory Manager. This position assists in the execution of sensory expert panels, implementation of trained factory panels, and supports the evaluation of business-directed R&D sensory panels.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate Sensory Expert Panels weekly, including preparing surveys and samples, setting up tasting rooms, and preparing technical reports using statistical methods.
- Support training for dairy category products with Sensory Expert Panels and propose action plans to improve panel qualification.
- Evaluate Sensory Expert Panel performance periodically and assist in recruiting new panelists.
- Prepare monthly technical reports on pillar product performance for Lactalis Global QA and internal Quality, Marketing, and R&D teams.
- Maintain an updated database of product tests, panelist selection, training, performance, and other relevant information.
- Procure commercially available dairy products weekly for Sensory Expert Panels, functionality testing, and other tastings.
- Provide panel attendance data for weekly panelist compensation and submit expense reports for sample purchases and materials.
- Support manufacturing plants in implementing and maintaining Factory Sensory Panels, including training Sensory Coordinators, creating SOPs, and generating monthly reports.
- Alert plant and corporate quality teams about negative trends in product performance from both expert and factory panels.
- Assist the Marketing Department during consumer tests by participating in sample collection and validation through the Sensory Expert Panel.
- Provide technical guidance and sensory evaluation for special R&D and Marketing projects.
- Support the culinary manager with product functionality evaluations and new recipe development.
- Organize Executive Leadership Team monthly product tasting sessions with the Corporate Quality Director and R&D.
- Travel to manufacturing plants and headquarters regularly to support Factory Sensory Panels and meet with the Corporate Quality Director.
- Provide technical assistance during investigations related to quality issues or special projects.
- Travel, extended hours, or off-work hours may be required.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate degree or higher preferred.
- Minimum of five (5) years of job-related experience.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science or related field preferred.
- Education and experience in Sensory Evaluation, Dairy Technology, and Statistics preferred.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of statistics.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and in teams with minimal direct supervision.
- Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
- Ability to operate in a transversal environment across multiple departments.
- Ability to adapt to a changing work environment.
- Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
